Jonathan insists on removal of fuel subsidy.

President Goodluck Jonathan Thursday renewed the call for the removal of fuel subsidy saying this is the only way to encourage private investment into the nation’s refineries.

He spoke in Abuja when he met Participants of the 2012 Senior Executive Course, 34 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS.

He said looking at what is obtainable in other countries, Nigeria stand to gain more if she allows market forces to determine the cost of petrol.

  2. What is this man talking about? I dont think we have a president. What we have is a puppet posing as a head. From #65 to #97 and we are yet to see any better change and yet he wants to increase the suffering of the people. Well, i guess he wants all but few Nigerians to go about without shoes like he once did. So inhumane, so callous, so insensitive, so arrogant. What a president?

  5. Presido, a beg stop that nonsense. The one you removed on electricity has not yielded anything. Instead we hv been made to pay for what we didn't use. Mr President, hv u been sent to kill the masses or reduce Nigeria's population.

  6. But the truth is that fuel is now selling at N125/130 per litre! Not to mention the artificial scarcity created by marketers.
We Nigerians like our govt are insensitive to one another

  7. This is the most useless government nigerians ever produce, a government that lost every sense of direction and focus. Mr president, is nigerian poor responsible for your wandering around without shoes when you were poor? Regrettable government!

  8. Even if the oil subsidy is remove or not, it's still the same 'cos right now we are buying one litre at the cost of #150 in the filling stations and #200, in the black market. So Nigerians lets just pray to God to bring ease to our lifes.

  9. I don't blame Mr. President, it is what has been written down for him that he is telling Nigerians. You are never on side of masses. The subsidy removed on electricity has led us nowhere instead there is no power anywhere. If I were u Mr. Presido I will think on my own instead of being scripted. Nonsense!

  16. It is obvious that GEJ lacks sense of direction and has no inkling of shame in him. Eliminating fuel subsidy is ok but not when GEJ lacks ideal of how to go about it. To be realistic, this man can take us to no where and i believe the safest option is to wait till 2015 if God spare our life for us to choose a new leader who by Gods grace is expected to deliver to the satisfaction of Nigerians. Let me tell GEJ if he dont know that subsidy on fuel is not what is discouraging investors but the lack of basic infrastructure and distrust for the govt of Nigera. Are we not importing fuel at international price? If private refineres refine here in Nigeria, thesame govt will surely buy at international price from them and do what she likes with the fuel. Infact even if govt decide to buy from private refineries and spill the fuel on the high sea or give it out for free, its non of the business of the private refineries. Govt should therefore stop deceiving Nigerians with the excuse that it is subsidy that is discouraging private investment. Afterall they can as well export the fuel abroad if we dont price it well. Barawo!

Tam david-west) waz interviewd today on channels sunrise daily, and he said there's nothing like fuel subsidy in Nigeria, that the governments just greedy and wicked. He said he stands to b quoted anywhere. Then I begin to wonder,y ar we always blessed with selfish leaders in d midst of abundant resources? I hope 2015 will bring a leader who will free Nigerians from diz bondage, dats y we all need to vote for a credible aspirant irrespective of tribe, religion nor ethnicity.God forgive our sins. Amin.

  24. KAI!!!!!! THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT HAS CAUSED ALOT OF PANIC UNREST AND DISSAPOINTMENT IN THE HEARTS OF NIGERIANS.
IT IS VERY VERY SAD TO SAY THAT NIGERIA IS SO BLESSED WITH HUMAN MATERIAL AND MINERAL RESOURCES. WE ARE TO BE AN EVNY FOR THE WORLD TO SEE BUT INSTEAD WE HAVE BECOME A PUBLIC TOILET WHERE ANYTHING GOES.
I FEEL DESPERATELY SADDNED BECAUSE A FEW YEARS AGO, WHEN YOU GET TO THE HEATHROW AIRPORT, THE WHITEMAN USED TO BEG FOR OUR NAIRA BUT NOW WE USE DUAL AND MULITPLE CURRENCIES IN THE COUNTRY (NAIRA, DOLLAR, BRITISH POUND, EURO IS ALSO ON THE WAY).
THE SITUATION IN THE COUNTRY CANNOT BE OVEREMPHASISED NOR CAN IT BE OVERLOOKED BECAUSE IT AFFECTS US ALL. THE NEED FOR A REBIRTH STILL REMAINS NECESSARY BUT REMAINS A TANTALIZING MIRAGE BECAUSE OF THE HIGH QUEST FOR MATERIAL AND FINANCIAL AQUISATION OF WEALTH AND PROPERTY STILL REMAINS.
WE SEE A DISTINCT PARADIAM SHIFT BETWEEN THE HAVES AND HAVE NOTS.
THE PRESIDENT CANNOT SOLVE THIS CRISIS ALONE. IT IS A COLLECTIVE EFFORT WHICH WE ALL HAVE TO BE PRIMARY AND PRINCIPAL PARTICIPANTS.
A COUNTRY WHERE A CONDUSIVE BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT IS CREATED WILL PERMIT BUSINESS TO STRIVE. ALL WE NEED IN THIS COUNTRY IS CONSTANT LIGHT, LOW INTEREST LENDING BANK RATES, NATIONAL SECURITY, AND MOST ESPECIALLY, A POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE. THANKS. FROM DE HUNTER

  26. the president should sit down and be sincere with himself and spend the remaining two years to rewrite history about himself ,his generation and the south-south and not continue to look for means to destroy the already battered economy with corruption that is as high as anything and unemployment that is getting close to 40% which means nearly half the whole Nigerian are unemployed.
the increase from 67 to 97 has not done the country good rather we have inflation and counter economy everywhere, he really need to go out and see what the happening in the country he need to look into our G.D.P our systems that are failing had promise so many things and had failed ALL THE MONEY THEY SHARE AND THE BIG FAT SALARY THEY SHARE INCLUDING THE LOOT AND ALL NATIONS RESOURCES CANNOT BE USED TO MAINTAINED AND DEVELOP THIS NATION, THE ONLY THING YOUR ECONOMIC TEAM IS SAYING TO YOU IS THAT YOU SHOULD MOVE IT FROM 100 TO 130 .LET ME TELL YOU IF YOU FAILED WITH THIS RESOURCES AT YOUR DISPOSAL AND ALL YOUR ADVISERS ARE IS HOW TO MAKE NIGERIA WORSE HA YOU NEED TO GO BACK AND THINK BACK
EVEN IF YOUR THEIF THEIF SUBORDINATE TELL YOU TO GO AND CAUSE MORE TROUBLE TO THE DYING POPULACE WILL YOU GO AHEAD

  27. There was no subsidy even b/4 january. This is very clear following the different stories from the oil industry.Let the petroleum, finance and communication ministers and the governor of CBN bury their heads in shame. As for mr president, God will decide your case.
