Another Bishop criticizes Oritsejafor’s private jet

It appears as if the opinion of the many of the Nigerian clergy still strongly frowns at the recent "Private Jet Gift" to the CAN President, as the Bishop of the Diocese of Ife, Anglican Communion, Rt. Rev. Oluwole Odubogun yesterday, also faulted the President, Christian Association of Nigeria, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, for joining the league of private jet owners in the country.

Odubogun described the donation of the private jet to Oritsejafor as a show of wealth amid poverty, want and deprivation.
Speaking at a programme of the diocese, Carnival for Christ 2012, on Saturday, Odubogun said the action of the CAN president was against the doctrine of the gospel.
He said Oritsejafor does not need a private jet to preach the gospel.
He said, “Having a private jet in the midst of want, in the midst of poverty and in the midst of all kinds of deprivation is a show of wealth, which is not precisely in consonance with the gospel.
“According to the gospel, those who have should share with those who do not have. When you are riding in a jet, you don’t know what is happening to the other people on the street. You are on your own.
“Whether the public transportation system is adequately taken care of you don’t know, because you have cut yourself off from the people whom you are supposed to guide and emancipate.”
The bishop added, “Let us say you need the jet to get to places on time. But the gospel is not meant for one person. It is not meant for one leader. There is no reason why you are the only one to go everywhere. And if you don’t have to go everywhere, you don’t need a jet.
“You will need a jet when you are running your private business. You will need a jet if you are the only one to oversee what is happening. As far as the gospel is concerned, God is in control. And God, who is in control, is giving us a message to disciple all nations.
“If you are preaching salvation which the gospel is all about, I don’t think you need a jet.”

  1. Thank you my Bishop. This is the bitter truth, even though they try to twist it to suit them - General Overseers of wealth. They want to be at all branches of d church to check if money is well deposited in their accounts. God have mercy on them!

  4. Rev Odubogun and most of the commentators on this issue have missed the point. The scripture says " Judge not lest thou be judged".
Please, please, leave Pastor Oritsejafor and his jet alone, let God judge.
    Case closed!

  6. The ministers of the Gospel hadly conclude a church service session without raising funds. Prosperity Sermon has become the order of the Pulpits. They preach you into feeling like a robber when you don't pay tithe. The Church Christ left behind has become a TRADE BUSINESS CENTRE, milking the poor to build their empire! God is angry with the church.Even Corporate Entities do not advertise their businesses with their pictures conspicously displayed on Bill Boards. God is angry with Church. Islam has a place of worship called mosque. In Christiandom, there are hundreds of thousands of General Overseers.why would the Lord fold his arms and watch Christians being slaughterd like chickens and goats? He is angry with THEIR CHURCHES!

  7. Its always good tp speak d truth bo matter who's takin offence, Jesus said it was extremely hard for rich/wealthy people to enter the kingdom of God, but now poverty is preached to be a curse forgetting the book of samuel that says " the Lord maketh poor & he maketh rich". In your povery still serve God this world is not supposed to be all pleasurable for us you might pray for riches and never get it because God knows you stand a better chance entering heaven poor than rich

  9. I am wondering if people that donated the money for the aircraft complained or reported to any one.People of God,let us be careful, these are disractions form satan to let us loose focus,NOTHING IS WRONG IF ANYONE OR PASTOR HAS A JET FROM A CLEAN SOURCE,dont sin in reacting to the JET ISSUE,By the way who else should live more comfortably, the children of God,because God is rich.I havent bought a car but i know i will God's grace.May God increase the people who give to Kingdom growth.Amen and give us grace to be holy and make HEAVEN.

  11. @Anonymous 9:22AM

    Our God doesn't angry,if he does,he reacts.He doesn't need anyone to fight for him.I know u are a Muslim.

Concerning the jet,let God react to the actions & inaction of the player involve.Don't create wrath of God on urself.God takes care of the situation himself,he doesn't need anyone's opinion, contribution or comment.

  12. Rev Odubogun, Anglican bishop of Ife, has disappointed me with his comments on the birthday gift of a jet to Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor. Discretion should have thought him to guard his utterances well. The structure and organigram of the Anglican Church is not the same with that of Pastor Ayo's church, neither does he work with the same set of ethics. Pastor Oritsejafor is like the 'Pope' of his church. The world is his constituency. His message is for the nations. He is in the league of Morris Cerullo, Billy Graham, Kenneth Hagin, Benny Hinn etc. His work is very evangelistic. An Anglican bishop takes care of a specific congregation - a diocese - no more. Pa Ayo has the world!!!

People of the likes of Pastor Ayo have traversed the world several times over. They have written many books that have helped shape Christians of all denominations. People hunger to hear from him. If Rev Odubogun has a message like his, people would want to hear him, too, and ,perhaps, buy him a jet! The comment attributed to this bishop of Ife smacks of jealousy - simple. My respect for the Anglicans restrains me from using stronger words. His position should have prevailed on him to be more circumspect in his utterances. Especially as Ayo is the current head of CAN.

Who said that the job of the pastors is to help spread the wealth? Does he think that Pastor Ayo has a moment's rest in his ministry? Does he think that he inherited the ministry? Does he know how hard he worked to build up the ministry for over 40 years? The spiritual children of the pastors listen to his messages; implement them; grow rich; and show gratitude. Money is a tool, not a master. That's why the Bible says that "The love of money is the root of all evil". NOT MONEY - but the LOVE of it!!!

Money that gets into God's children's hands are to used for His glory, and for pushing back the frontiers of hell and evil. Be careful how you attack God's servants lest you see yourself kicking against thorns.

  14. You people are blinded by the devil and lack of the revelations of the Word of God. Just take time to read and ask the Holy Ghost to tell you why Jesus did not stop the expensive oil, why did He not ride on old and half dead donkey? Infact He rebuked the disciples who were worry about the poor when He was being anointed! he said the poor you have with you always, but me not?... Shalom.
