Police kill robbery suspect in Ikeja, Lagos

Pandemonium broke out yesterday on Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja, following a shoot-out between a robbery gang and a team of Mobile Police Squad 43, leading to the death of one of the robbery suspects.

The armed men numbering four, attacked residents of a building at Abule-Onigbogbo estate, carting away an unspecified amount of money at about 7.30a.m.

According to reports the armed men, gained entry into the their victim’s apartment, dispossessing him of laptops, phones, jewelry and other personal effects.

However, on their way out, one of the robbers was waylaid by two private guards, but his colleagues came to his rescue as they started shooting into the air.

An eyewitness, who simply identified himself as Frank, revealed that the suspected armed robbers, on sighting the policemen who had responded to panic calls, started shooting sporadically, in an apparent move to scare them.
He said the policemen responded  and one of the suspected armed robbers was felled during the  gun duel.
According to the source, a Man  O War official, who was on guard in the estate, was shot by the armed robbers  and had  been taken to an unnamed hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
The shootout between the suspected armed robbers and the policemen created  confusion  around Ikeja and some parts of Maryland.
Efforts to get the reaction of the police on the incident were futile as calls and text messages to the image maker in charge of the state police command, Ngozi  Braide, were not responded to.

  1. Any confirmed armed robbers should be killed instantly rather than taking them to court at least to reduce their number.
