Pilot-Governor of Taraba state to be flown to Germany, after crashing his Private Jet



Taraba State Governor, Danbaba Suntai, is to be flown to Germany for treatment, following serious injuries he received in a plane crash on Thursday night.

The governor and four of his aides and a co-pilot sustained serious injuries after a light aircraft he (Suntai) was flying crashed on Y in neighbouring Adamawa State.

After initial reports that the governor died in the crash, he and the others were found alive in the plane.

A News Agency of Nigeria correspondent reported that they were first rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Yola for treatment.

The NAN correspondent, who visited the hospital’s emergency ward at about 9.30p.m, said the patients included the governor’s Chief Security Officer, Aide-de-Camp and co-pilot.

The governor, who was piloting the aircraft that crashed on Yola-Numan road, reportedly also received treatment at the intensive care unit of Yola Specialist Hospital.

Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim, Public Relations Officer of Adamawa police command, and Mr. Luka Ikpi, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, told NAN that the victims were all found alive at the site of the crash and were rushed to hospital.

Also, Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako, was at the specialist hospital to obtain first-hand information on Suntai’s
Security men were stationed at the gate of the hospital to prevent people from trooping into the premises.

In Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, residents were thrown into confusion and anxiety as they received information that the state governor was in the aircraft that crashed in neighbouring Adamawa State.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Hassan Mijinyawa, confirmed that Suntai was involved in the crash, saying, however, that no life was lost in the crash.

On Friday morning, Suntai was flown to Abuja preparatory to being moved to Germany for further treatment.
