Ogun compensates families of slain police officers with N500,000 each

The Ogun State Government on Wednesday gave the family members of the five policemen killed by armed robbers in the Abeokuta and Ibafo areas of state early this week N2.5m.
The policemen were, Inspector Christopher Ugwu, Inspector Josiah Udoh, Corporal Istefenwa Day, Sergeant James Adejor and Sergeant Nwachukwu Udoka.
Each of the family got N500, 000 at the Governor’s Office Press Centre, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Taiwo Adeoluwa, who handed over the money to the families, said it was meant to cover burial expenses as well as to meet the immediate needs of the family members.
Flanked by the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikemefuna Okoye, and other senior officials of the state, the SSG also said adequate arrangements had been made by the state government to pay the medical bills of the two other policemen injured during the incident.
The SSG also conveyed the state condolence message from Governor Ibikunle Amosun to the family members of the deceased policemen, commending the gallantry they exhibited in confronting the robbers.
Adeoluwa said the state government would also give the next of kins of each of the policemen N1m after the burial.
“We are grateful and indebted to these fallen heroes. We share in your grief and pains at this period. We are grateful to the dead and the living. They have paid the supreme sacrifices in the cause of protecting lives and property of residents of the state.
“We also thank God for sparing the lives of those who sustained varying degrees of injuries and are receiving treatment. We are gladdened that they are responding to treatment. We wish them quick recovery. The Governor has directed that the state bears all expenses relating to their treatment. We are doing that, and, we are monitoring the progress of their recovery.”
