Nigerian Midfielder, Mikel Obi dives in Music

Nigerian and Chelsea midfielder recently announced his foray into the lucrative Nigerian music industry with the launch of his record label, Matured Money Minds (MMM). Already, the label has Charass, Kido, Edgar and Splash signed on.

Justifying his latest venture since it came to many as a surprise, the midfield maestro says “apart from football, music is another thing I had passion for while I was growing up in Jos. I have so much emotional attachment to music. It lifts my soul and makes me happy."

“The arrival of MMM Records (Matured Money Minds) has gone a long way to show the deep love I have for music. I want to contribute my little quota to the growth of the music industry in Nigeria.

I’m a good song writer and singer. If I wasn’t a footballer, I would have done well as a singer or a disc jockey (DJ)” he concludes.

  1. Wow! Nigerian music market must be very lucrative for the footballer to turn a singer. The problem of the industry in Nigeria is that you will have to download 50 bad songs before a Good song turns up. Of course the explanation is that even imbeciles who happen to have money enough to produce a music will sing. Unlike what obtains in the outside worlds where the music producers only produce music of the best of the best thus limiting( not extincting) the number of bad music which escapes out of the studio.

  3. DETAILS PROFILE OF HAUZ MATES:
Hauz-Mates are three blood brothers; they were born to the family of Adedip-a family of six of Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State south-western part of Nigeria. Lateef Ayodeji Adedipe known as Latyboi is the first born of the family; Rafiu Adedipe know as Raf Swaglord is the second born while Rilone Kayode Adedipe know as Realone is the third born. They were born in the year 1991, 1992 and 1993 respectively in Lagos, Nigeria. They started their education career in Lagos, their father was transferred to Minna in Niger State in the year 2003, this led them to move down to Ado-Ekiti their home town to attend a very famous Secondary School in the state capital- Christ Boys School popularly known as Upsco! . During their secondary school day they were known as Farrilaty boiz as their stage name. Farrilaty is the combination of their names to form the acronym. Shortly after their music is getting serious they changed their name to Hauz-Mates.
Presently, they are undergraduate students in the faculty of environmental science in Adekunle Ajasin University in Ondo State, Nigeria.
Hauz-Mates started their musical career at their early adolescent age with the aid of their uncle, Azeez Kolade Adedipe who had a substantial interest in the music industry in the year 2003 when they moved down to Ado-Ekiti; that gave them the opportunity to have the chance to be very close to their uncle simply because they were living with him then.
Hauz-Mates used to childishly compose music for their uncle when they were at their early 10, even if the music sound childishly, he used to appreciate them and did encourage them to try more until they started going to studio to learn singing on Mic. They recorded their ever first music at the age of 13, called Channel Babe and Our name. When their uncle heard the song he shed tears because he did not believe that they could sound so good in that way; that was when he discovered the real innovative talent in them and vowed to support them in all ramifications. He was a banker then, he paid their bills; made them to undergo a voice training exercise which drastically improved their moral and talents in music and entertainment.
In the year 2006, Goddan City show came down to Ado-Ekiti, they contested as artiste and became 2nd position, this as a matter of fact considered as one of their milestone in the musical career.
In the year 2006 also, they recorded “Iwo Ni Moferan” produced by Flip Tyce (the producer of “chop My money” by Psquare), the producer never believed they could make work easy for him as he saw them very young and childish, he placed them on beat and they beat his imagination.
“Iwo Ni Moferan” is a love song that touches the heart. They were very glad with the song as it sounds very mature and rated them very standard among upcoming artiste around them.
In the year 2009, they had the chance to feature Dagrin in their single called Labule ft Dagrin also produce by Flip Tyce. Labule is a song that talks about equality between the Villages and Cities in Nigeria.
They have also recorded other lovely songs like “O’benge”, “Iro Nla”- (big lie), “E no Mata”, “Lyk Clubbing,” “Life”, “No be House Maid”, “Hip Hip Hurray” etc.
Over the years, they have been able to attend several shows with famous artiste in Nigeria like Dagrin (R.I.P.), Nico Gravity, 2face etc. More so, they have featured in series of campus shows and some other shows organised within the country. As a matter of fact, Huaz-Mates boys are no longer embryos in the music industry.
