A Gudu District Upper Area Court in Abuja on Monday sentenced one Danbauchi John of Durumi three area of Abuja to one-year imprisonment for criminal trespass and theft.
The Judge, Adamu Wakili, however, gave him an option of N4, 000 fine after he found him guilty of stealing a television set.
“You (convict) were just discharged from this court less than a month ago for a similar offence for want of evidence but now you are being charged for two offences. You are to serve your terms concurrently, ’’ Wakili said.
The police prosecutor, Mr Christian Munonye, had told the court that the convict stole a television set at Ogbonna Store at Durumi one, Abuja, on Oct. 12.
Munonye said the matter was reported on Sept. 26 to the Durumi Police Station by one Uzodinma Ogbonna of Durumi two, Abuja.
“The accused went to Ogbonna Store at Durumi 1, Abuja, and stole a Sony 14 inches television valued at N 21,000.’’
Munonye said that the offences were contrary to Sections 342 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The convict pleaded guilty to the charge.
