A staff of Bureau for Special Duties in Delta State has been removed from the Illah Camp for flood victims in Delta State for allegedly embezzling funds meant for the victims. The order for his removal was given by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan who also directed that the suspect refunds such fund without further delay.
The governor gave the order during a routine meeting aimed at reviewing the management of the flood situation with political office holders at Government House Asaba. The exact amount embezzled was, however, not immediately known.
The governor, who was visibly angry, rained invectives on the said official saying, “Any official misappropriating money for flood victims was doing so at his/her own peril.
“It is inhuman and unfair for anyone to deprive the victims of food and people doing this will reap the reward. If it does not affect you now, it will certainly happen somehow, someday. You cannot short-change the flood victims to make money for yourself because such money will never be useful to you. You can never use it well for yourself.”
The state Commissioner, Bureau for Special Duties, Dr. Tony Nwaka, was thereafter directed by the governor to enforce the order without delay.
