Tragedy struck weekend as the convoy of Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa State, involved in a fatal accident in which three of his aides lost their lives while the governor’s son was seriously injured.
It was gathered that the incident occurred when driver of one of the vehicles in governor’s convoy-a Hilux pickup van with registration number: NSO 2A09, carrying son of the governor, Khalid Al-makura, attempted to overtake another vehicle directly in front, and thereby ran into an on-coming lorry with registration number: XE 384 NSR.
The convoy was returning from Umuasha village, in Toto Local Government where the governor had gone to distribute relief materials to victims of recent flood disaster in the area.
The accident which occurred at Dogon Dutse in the same local government claimed the lives of the governor’s nephew, Zaki Mohammed, who also doubled as his Personal Assistant, driver of the pickup, Mohammed and the son of Nasarawa state Head of Service, Mr Amos Akawu, whose name could not be ascertained as at press time.
Khalid, the governor’s son at the time of filing this report, was lying critically at the Intensive Care Unit, ICU, of the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi.
