The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said on Saturday that it had arrested two suspected drug traffickers allegedly attempting to export 4.285 kg of methamphetamine worth N68.5 million to India.
NDLEA said the suspects were arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos during a routine search on passengers boarding Ethiopian airline flight to India.
In a statement issued by its spokesman, Mitchell Ofoyeju, the agency said the substance tested positive to methamphetamine, adding that the drug was hidden in a luggage.
During screening, the drug was discovered in a luggage at the baggage checking desk, it said.
NDLEA chief executive Ahmadu Giade warned in the statement that there was no escape route for drug traffickers.
“We shall continue to monitor and prevent cases of drug trafficking in the country. Already, two suspects have been arrested concerning this case and we are working hard to arrest others.”
He said that the suspects would be charged to court soon.
