Femi Gabajbiamila, The minority leader in the House of Representatives, on Wednesday said that not all those listed on the National honours list are qualified to be so listed.
Speaking on a Channels TV programme, Mr Gabajbiamila said the list recently released by the presidency contained people with ‘suspicious characters’, ‘people without integrity’ and ‘good men and women’.
The minority leader, who was nominated last year but turned down the award, said the reason why he declined was because he felt he had not reached the achievement bar which he sees as a prerequisite for such award.
Femi Gbajabiamila recently rebutted allegations of financial impropriety insisting the Presidency was after him for raising impeachment motion.

That is what you get when a country's leadership is not imbued with citizens' mandate, i.e, not voted in by the electorate. In Nigeria it is these "suspicious" ignoble people who determine who rules us; they are the electorate. Political legitimacy resides with them. Were it the other way round, the composition of the recipients of that prestigious honour would have been different.
ReplyDeleteSuspecious characters such as Dr Emmanuel Uduagha.

Can the tortoise have a shell and the offspring scales? If a man is presently involved in a scandal as serious as the fuel subsidy thing, a conscientious govt will not pick them for this awards. But since they are all birds of a kind, what do you expect?
