Gonu, who resides at Gospel Villa, Iyana Shasha, Lagos, had on arraignment pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of burglary and stealing.

The convict pleaded for leniency.

Magistrate Adebisi Osho sentenced the convict to two months imprisonment without an option of fine.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that the convict had on Aug.17 at Shop 12, Iretioluwa St., Oshodi Expressway, Oshodi, Lagos, at about 2:00 a.m. stole the belts from the shop of one Mr Okolie Ejike.

“The complainant received a call from Mr Yomi Balogun, a security man attached to Boladale St., Oshodi, that he saw the convict in his shop stealing.

“He went there the next morning and saw that the accused had stolen three belts valued N5,000 and he was apprehended," Olatunde said.

He said when the convict was interrogated; he claimed to be an orphan and needed money to feed.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 287 and 307 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The magistrate in his ruling said, “in view of the evidence before me, you are hereby sentenced to two months imprisonment without an option of fine’’.
