JTF arrests 156 Boko Haram suspects in Adamawa state



Members of the military Joint Task Force (JTF) in Adamawa state have killed one and arrested 156 suspected members of the Islamic sect Boko Haram in a raid at their enclave in Mubi Local Government Area of Adamawa state official said on Monday.

The terrorist group reportedly engaged the security operatives in a gun battle which lasted close to an hour before they were subdued as one of them was killed in the battle.

Addressing Journalists shortly after inspecting the compound raided by the military Joint Task Force (JTF) code named ‘Operation Restore Sanity’, the commander of the 23rd Armoured Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Brigadier General John Nwaoga disclosed that the operation that led to the break through by security men was sequel to the recent clandestine activities and destruction of GSM masts in Mubi by suspected terrorists who had already claimed responsibility for the dastardly act.

Gen Nwaoga, who was accompanied to the press briefing by the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Godfrey Okeke and the State Director of the State Security Service (SSS), Jaye Oba, said the raid has helped the military intelligence to unravel the mystery behind the protracted wave of shootings and Bomb attacks in Mubi which shares its border with Borno State.

Items recovered from the raid included ready to use Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) Chemicals, Arms and ammunitions, over 500 dagger knives, 9 AK47, assault rifles, Locally made pistols and rocket launchers.

Gen Nwoaga however, said the operation is ‘sweeping’ and assured that those arrested will be decisively screened in order to free innocent ones.
