FG frustrating North on oil exploration, ACF insists

Arewa Consultative Forum has restated its allegation that the Federal Government is frustrating oil exploration in the North.

The northern socio-cultural and political group on Monday flayed the FG’s alleged snail’s speed at giving the go-ahead for the exploration of oil deposits in Benue, Kogi and Sokoto states.
The forum on Monday in Kaduna insisted that it had not shifted its position on the issue which it first made public on Friday.

National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Mr. Anthony Sani, told our correspondent that the FG could not claim ignorance of oil deposits in the region.

Sani said since there were large deposit of oil in Kogi State, the state should enjoy what other oil producing states are enjoying.

Citing Mexico, the forum insisted that oil on littoral states belongs to all Nigerians and not only to the oil producing states.

The ACF chief said, “This is not a new thing. There has been stories that the Benue trough is in the same geological belt with Chad and Sudan where oil has been found. It is very mischievous for anybody to regard a mere reminder for a need to step up action as a ploy to promote an agenda.

“ACF favours derivation based on rewards for efforts and compensation for degradation of environment. But what is disagreable is that offshore exploration is neither a result of efforts nor does it degrade any environment of any community.
“What is more, international law of the sea does not recognise littoral states but nations, and that is why the Nigerian Navy and Air Force are the ones which keep watch over the ocean.
“So what people have been saying is that proceeds from offshore exploration should not feature in the calculation for derivation.”

  1. Read the news, Arewa people. Anambra State single-handedly explored their own oil. The state government did not wait for the FG for that exercise. I have NEVER seen a group of people as parasitic as northern Nigerians. You are all like non-worker male bees called drones that have no sting, does not gather pollen, and exists only to mate with the queen bee! You all want to lead the lifestyles of Saudi sheiks but forget that unlike them, the oil here is not yours. If one of you could build a refinery in Niger Republic, then join hands and invest in exploration in your domains. Rockefeller of the USA did this in his time. If it were certain there's oil in the north, you'd have all formed a beeline for Kogi and Benue States. Already billions have been wasted in these areas. Shouldn't we rather invest in the sure onshore wells in our Niger Delta? Arewa, get in the habit of saying thank you for our benevolence so far. Get a life!

  2. Arewa people, they should better face their farming & terrorism. The educated one among them are not ready to enlighten their Almajiris so that the Almajiris could be useful for them for political issues. ACF try to aid Nigeria not to be parasitic.

  3. Because of people like 'Safari' this country will never move forward. Can you ask your father where did nigeria source money for the exploration of oil in Niger Delta? How many countries got developed without even a drop of oil? It is not your people that gave Nigeria bad reputation? Travel abroad and see. Poor thinking faculty like yours... Haven't you seen or heard of South Sudan? You would end up like them!

  5. Safari, thank you; you said it all... a pity one of the parasites (Bashar) showed up to voice his ignorance. And Bashar, FYI: keep ur eyes on South Sudan, and watch how they'll move and overtake the Parasitic North as they embrace values devoid of religious bondage. It's just a matter of time!

  7. Why does the North always have a very different take on issues? It did not start today, go and listen to the Saudana's interviews and see what I mean. Without the north I really think Nigeria would have been global power. Is there any way we can have a confederation? I don tire!
