The gunmen who kidnapped King Richard Seiba, the monarch of Okordia clan in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, have reviewed their ransom downward to N15m.
The fresh demand came three days after the bandits contacted the family of their victim and requested N30m to free him.
The 72-year old monarch was abducted from his bedroom at his palace and driven to an unknown place by his assailants who stormed the community at 2am last Saturday.
Investigations by our correspondent showed that the ransom was slashed following negotiations between the family of the victim and the kidnappers.
The kidnappers were said to have contacted the paramount ruler’s wife, Evelyn, last Thursday and informed her that the ransom had been reduced.
Despite fears that Seiba’s health condition had started deteriorating, the kidnappers were said to have assured on the phone that he was doing well.
Sources gathered that the women of the clan had begun seeking divine intervention in the matter as they held prayers at his palace and fasting from 6am to mid-day daily.
It was gathered that sympathisers, including chiefs and officials of community development committees in the area, had been visiting Evelyn and members of the family to commiserate with them.
Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa Police Command, Fidelis Odunna, said on Friday that the force was hopeful that Seiba would regain freedom very soon.
Odunna said a security network was working with some members of the monarch’s family to ensure his release from the kidnappers.
