Nigeria will overcome present challenges soon – Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday expressed the confidence that Nigeria would soon overcome present challenges hindering its development.

Jonathan gave the assurance while granting audience to the outgoing British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Andrew Lloyd, who paid him a farewell visit at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The President said his administration was committed to evolving and implementing policies and measures that would help the country to overcome its present challenges.

He promised that the Federal Government, under his leadership, would continue to work with Britain and other developed nations to promote good governance, political stability and socio-economic development in Nigeria and other African countries.

He lauded Lloyd for enhancing the already excellent bilateral relations between Nigeria and Great Britain significantly during his tenure.

He specifically commended the outgoing High Commissioner’s efforts to boost trade and economic cooperation between Nigeria and Britain.

Jonathan observed that the highpoint of those efforts was Prime Minister David Cameron’s visit to Nigeria with a delegation of British businessmen and investors.

“We shall continue to count on your support and I hope your successor will continue your good work here in Nigeria,” he told Lloyd.

Jonathan also granted audience to the outgoing Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Youssef Shawki.

Shawki is leaving Nigeria after a two-year tenure.

The President expressed the hope that Nigeria and Egypt would continue to build up and expand areas of bilateral cooperation.

He wished Shawki well in his future endeavours and urged him to consider himself a life-long Ambassador of Nigeria to Egypt and the rest of the world.
