The Lagos State House of Assembly has lampooned telecommunication giant, MTN, over its wonder promo.
Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, Security and Publicity, Hon. Segun Olulade, blasted the firm for encouraging Lagosians to participate in the promo that promises luxurious gifts such as aero plane with a fee of N200.
The promo, he said, has the tendency to contribute to the growing trend of moral decadence in the society.
Olulade said it creates the impression among youths that there are undignified short cuts to wealth, negating the ideals of labour and responsibility.
He argued that marketing hypes of this kind would go a long way to further insult the collective intelligence of Nigerians and defeat the purpose they are meant to serve.
The lawmaker advised MTN to consider the far- reaching implications of the controversial promo on its brand’s integrity in Nigeria, especially if the promises are not fulfilled.
He urged MTN to devise more dignifying sale strategies and intensify efforts in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
He called on the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) as well as the Consumers Protection Council (CPC) to critically look into the modalities surrounding the various business promos in the country.

Like those stupid Politians of the Lagos House of Assembly don't know that THEIR OWN lifestyles (theft, corruption, nepotism, cronysm, tribalism, violence, etc) contribute to the moral decadence of the 9ja youth.
ReplyDeleteMost see politics as easiest way to get rich in Nigeria. At least MTN's more honest but still flawed.
Please these diseased politians should quietly STFU. Their voices degrade the polity & social hagemony. Stupid bastards.
Rather let us hear this rebuke from another quarter; like the Church.
I'm done.

is it only 'aeroplane' fraud that mtn is carrying out?wot about undelivered text messages that they still deduct ur money for?and other issues..nigeria is a fertile ground for corporate fraud
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with hon segun.
ReplyDeleteOther african countrys like togo N ghana make calls at a very reduced rate,MTN are only bent on extorting nigerians. As a result of bad leadership.
ReplyDeleteSoon GLO will launch WIN ASO ROCK promo by recharging airtime of N100. What a collective insult to the sensibility of the Nigerian Consumers. Shame to the Telecom Regulators
ReplyDeleteIts a shame. Who do they think they are fooling? Let them rectify their epileptic services first. MTN should be penalised as coporate fraudsters.
ReplyDeleteI agree with u. This is a big insult to the country
ReplyDeleteMTN, everywhere u go...
ReplyDeleteThe promo is real loo MTN cannot fool anyone tgey are honest
ReplyDeleteMTN wahala too much. I beg them to use the money to fix their off and on network. These days you can hardly make a call when you need it bcos the network will tell you "congestion" or "number you are calling is either busy or unavailable" even when the number is close to you and you are sure it's available and not busy. They are too stingy and extorts so much money from Nigerians. If not for other networks they would emptied our pockets.
ReplyDeleteThere are better things u can use as advert but not aeroplane. Should I win d plane and decide to keep d plane, where is it goin to be kept? Ha ba! MTN think of a better way to help Nigerians instead of cheating them.
ReplyDeleteThere are better things u can use as advert but not aeroplane. Should I win d plane and decide to keep d plane, where is it goin to be kept? Ha ba! MTN think of a better way to help Nigerians instead of cheating them.
ReplyDeleteWe are waiting to see who wins the plane or MTN will be taken to court. You can't fool us.
ReplyDeleteThis is 419 of the twenty first century, mtn reliy think negerians are stupid, let all negerians swiuch off mtn. Network for 24 hours we can do it, yes we can.
ReplyDeleteI think MTN is not the problem, we are the problem (Nigerians), we like short cuts, MTN have other countries like Ghana, Southafrica where they also cover, but they cannot run such adverts there, Why ?, so I think we should look inwards .
ReplyDeleteI don't think this MTN promo is going on in other countries where their Network is covering, so they have seen us like very desperate people, how can u win an air plane with 200 MTN recharge card, Nigerians, pls think !......
ReplyDeleteMTN IS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE CORRUPT,INJUSTICE AND INSINCERITY OF NIGERIA SYSTEM THEY MET ON GROUND. GOD PLS HAVE MERCY ON THIS COUNTRY.THEY WONT TRY IT IN ANOTHER COUNTRY LIKE GHANA.
ReplyDeleteY blame MTN? Blame the leadership who connives with them, leaders who do not av their people at heart. Blame Nigerians, whose logo is prosperity - easy way to affluence! MTN knows that Nigerians are lazy and hate using their brains for positive thinking except for anything that can bring quick money. Majority prefers to waste valuable productive time in churches and mosques seeking prosperity and heaven, forgetting all their primary assignments on heart! Why won't MTN fool us? Why won't Boko haram try to set Christians against Muslims when they know religion is our food! Which way Nigeria! Nigerians wake up! Let us unite and say enough is enough to the oppressors! Unite under one God and say NO to them, including Hon. Segun and MTN!
ReplyDelete@jay jay u've spoken well. Nigerians love short cut 2 affluence. No wonder we're easily duped and not growing as a country. Our bad leaders have made us so-they've improvished us and instil in our psyche that 'money is a semi-god so worship it'
ReplyDeleteJay are you sure you are Nigerian? I am quite impressed with the way you reason. You hit the nail on the head litrarily.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your wonderful contributions. Another dimension I would like to add is that our authorities are our biggest problem in this country. How many times have they asked all these fraudulent promo companies to present them with evidence of the prizes won and by who in all these promo? From essentials of marketing, when a product can not sustain its place in the market place and tend to survive by promo, the sign should be interpreted by all stakeholders to know that there is a problem somewhere. MTN please ripping off people and leading us into temptations.
ReplyDeleteI will want the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) as well as the Consumers Protection Council (CPC) to look critically into MTN Aeroplane Wonder promo and other such promos of its kind. I want to know how such gifts of that magnitude can help Nigerian's or solve consumer's myriad problem.
ReplyDeleteIf really MTN has such money to disburse, why can't they break such wealth into meaningfull sum (e.g. 1 million naira pieces) so that many nigerians will take a share of the wealth.
For your information, that 1 million dollar of etisalat telecom was won by only 1 person. But that wealth could have broken down so that at least 158 nigerians would have gone home with 1 million naira each. This will eventually aids circulation of money within our economy.
MTN is Genuine but its performances may not be satisfactory. The issue of crediting customer's account with bonuses after recharghing is qustionable in that,I wonder how we are expected to exhaust text messages as many a thousand and the credit is just a passable fraction of the bonus, why not all bonuses call credit instead of text credit.I feel the treatment given to customers on bonuses is that of,'what will a begger do',However they seem to have the largest chunk of customers.Thank god there are competitors, though i still prefer MTN
ReplyDeleteLagos state government cannot be more correct, but i blame those who sing the praise of MTN for me personally I have always seen them as Thief.
ReplyDeleteJay jay, u ve really spoken well & accurately. But dont blame MTN, blame the Government & majority of Nigerians that allows corrupt system to flourish which enables company like MTN to continually ripping us. Not only MTN, there are hundreds like them. And as one late statesman said "A nation get the type of government (sorry Promo) it deserves.
ReplyDeleteOne day MTN will come up with "RECHARGE N100 & WIN NATIONAL THEATRE promo"
.....Tquality1
MTN ARE THE BIGEST 419 THEY PROMISE FREE CALLS EVERY WEEKEND YET NOT EVEN TEXT MESSENGES AFTER RECHARDE THIS FIRM ARE NOT THROUGHT FULL I AGREE WITH HON SEGUN
ReplyDeleteNigeria has been turn into no man"s land by all the network provider.Every thing now is strach and win, i dnt blame them bt blame our leaders who agree for them to turn it to how it is today. Let them be using all those money for development in some sectors like infrastructure in nigeria rather than gambling named strach and win promo.
ReplyDeletePls (NCC) & (CPC) most do something about fraudulent promo companies lik MTN, after whot they did 2 me whit TREASURE HUNT, extorting up 2 15000# from me & i told my friend about it & he told me that his own was 52400#, whot about the pple i dont no all over Nigeria, & at d end of d promo non of us win a recharge card of 100#, So u see that no fraudsters wil b lik MTN. The Aeroplane Wonder Promo is a good evidence that should be penalised the coporate fraudsters. May God bles Nigeria...
ReplyDeleteLAGOS STATE ASSEMBLY, I COMMEND U ALL.
ReplyDeleteMTN ARE EXPLOITERS, HOW CAN ONE RECHARGE AND WIN AEROPLANE. WHAT DO U TAKE NIGERAINS FOR? U BETTER TAKE DAT ADVERT OFF AIR OR ELSE LOSS UR EXISTING CUSTOMERS. UR NETWORK IS BAD, U R EXPLOITERS? WHAT ELSE CAN U OFFER BUT TO STEAL FROM US AGAIN.
NIGERIANS BE WISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS A SCAM.
i get very angry whenever i see this advert, i think MTN can channel their effort to better things, b4 they start loosing customers.
ReplyDeletei believe that what this network providers should do is to run promos that say "recharge up to 200 naira and mtn, glo, zain or etisalat will built a children heart hospital worth 50 million” instead of insulting our sensibilities.
