Cynthia to be buried on Sept 7 – Family

Miss Cynthia Osokogu, the victim of an Internet dating transaction, will be buried on Sept. 7 at Bebe, Ovia Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta, the family said.

Cynthia, a postgraduate student of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, was allegedly killed by friends she met on the social media, Facebook, at a hotel in Festac, Lagos in July.

The suspected killers of the young woman allegedly lured her to Lagos on a phoney business deal and killed her in a hotel room.

Mrs Joy Osokogu , who announced the date to journalists in Jos on Monday, advised youths to be very cautious of making friends with people that they did not know.

“The youths should be very careful, especially when they are making friends in the social media. Like we have seen in the case of my daughter, such friends may have ulterior motives.

Osokogu described her deceased daughter as “very industrious, hard working and a respectful child.
“She was my daughter, my friend and my sister. Her memory will never be forgotten because she touched so many lives positively in her short stay on earth,” she said.

Osokogu said Cynthia’s killers had demanded N20 million ransom from the family.
“The killers of my daughter demanded a ransom of N20 million from my son, Flt- Lt. Kenneth Osokogu,” she said.

Osokogu said the killers sent her son, who is in Makurdi, a text message demanding that he paid N20million into an account which did not exist.

“The killers were not picking our calls; they only communicated to us via text messages.
“When my son got their SMS, he later replied them that the account number was fake and didn’t exist.

“He sent another message in which he said that if it was a case of kidnapping, he would like to speak with his sister before making any payment but the killers did not respond,” Osokogu said.

She said, however, that when she spoke with the suspected killers, they did not ask her for any money.

Osokogu said she spoke last with Cynthia on July 22, when she called to say that she was travelling to Lagos to get her goods.

“But the next day, I didn’t hear from her. When I tried to reach her, all her phones were switched off.
“After one week, the phones started ringing but no one was picking.

“Few days later, people I believe to be the killers, called and said that my daughter was in one Symbol Hospital in Lagos.

“I called the police I had earlier reported the case to, to go and verify if she was in the hospital, they said there was no hospital like that.

“After a while, I called the number and told them I wanted to speak with her but they said that it was not possible.

“When I asked why, they said she would come back but that I wouldn’t speak with her.

“When I called the number again, they said they had killed her and that was when we declared Cynthia missing,’’ Osokogu said..

The police in Lagos last week announced the arrest of some persons in connection with the murder of Cynthia.

  1. "The suspected killers of the young woman allegedly lured her to Lagos on a phoney business deal and killed her in a hotel room."

Let us think about the above quote; she went to transact business with people she has never met; why didnt she agree to do the business/deal in an open place? Why did she resorted to accompanying the culprit to a "hotel room"? There is more to this saga than what we are reading on newspapers.

If Cynthia wasnt a runs girl, what warranted her to immediately succumb to the request of these hoodlums to do business "in a hotel room?" No woman with her right senses will go to a hotel room to do any business with a stranger, when everyone knows what could happen inside a hotel room. Did she consider being raped, or what happened to her?

Anyway, i rest my case on this, and i dont want to hear this nonsense anymore because as far as i understand this bullshit, she went there to make money too, maybe with the false pretense of those guys being rich, and she thought she could take advantage of their riches but unfortunately, these idiots were after her money.

If i were the judge delivering the judgement, i will invite the Narcotics for thorough investigation and also request for the pharmacists' license. If they are qualified, and the extent of the drugs that was sold doesnt go beyond sleeping, then i will ask the court to grant them bail with a fine of a heavy sum, otherwise if they are "quack", i will jail them, but only 2years, unless otherwise stated by law.

But as for the killers, unless stated by the constitution, i will jail them, but give them room to appeal the case later; or rather, you will be standing trial (appearing in court when needed BUT be kept in prison custody).

As for the deceased, she will be wise in her next generation. May her soul find rest. Amen.

    1. Your statement is too wicked. How can you say all those words to the dead? I know for sure that you have not been following this story. We meet people everyday, but if you have not falling into wrong hands does not make you perfect.
Please, if this girl is your sister; will you conclude as such? Even if she's a runs girl, is it those guys duty to kill her? Those guys said they had done it before, this means its their way of lifehood. They make rich and innocent ladies to suffer just because those girls agreed to be their friends.
There is no crime in making new friends but its a crime to kill others because you want to live.
May God save us and may we never be use as a bad example to others in Jesus name.Amen

  3. I am afraid of this so called Unyime Edet. I think from his statement, he is one of those guys. Probably that's what he does for a living. You see, for me, I believe in God and at the same time I am a practical person. If those guys who killed Cynthia are sane, then they should be killed. If the pharmacists are ignorant of the guys intention, they might be spared with a huge penalty, perhaps suspending their licence for years. But if found that the pharmacists belong to the same caucus with these guys, then they should also be killed. May the Almighty forgive me for my comments but the truth must be said. Cynthia, may your soul rest in peace. This is a young promising full of life and you decided to take her life for no cause. God will punish you all and others who are yet to be caught.
