Boko Haram in Talks With FG – VOA

Information available on the website of foremost American news agency, Voice of America (VOA), has it that someone who claims to be a spokesman for the Nigerian militant group Boko Haram says the group is engaged in direct talks with the government on ending violence in the country’s north.

In a statement obtained by VOA, Habu Mohammed, who claims to be a deputy to Boko Haram leader Sheikh Abubakar Shekau, says the militant group decided to initiate the peace moves in response to numerous public appeals for peace in the country. The statement was given to VOA in Mecca.
The Nigerian government has not responded to the claim, but senior Nigerian officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed the talks to VOA. They would not provide additional details.
The Islamic militant group has claimed responsibility for numerous attacks in Nigeria, including church bombings and the bombing of a United Nations building. The group has threatened international media organizations, including VOA's Hausa service.
The militant group has said it is fighting to create an Islamic state in northern Nigeria and says it does not recognize the Nigerian government or the constitution.
Several previous attempts by the Nigerian government to engage Boko Haram have failed.

What peace are BH seeking? They want an Islamic state of their own in the North, Therefore let the rest of Nigeria give them what they want and we will all have peace. This Means they will be another country and not part of the current Nigeria. They want something similar to Sudan (South and Northern Sudan): Northern Nigeria and Southern Nigeria. They can come out and declare their own sovereignty as a new nation and we will understand. They cannot seek to be part of Nigeria when they do not recognise the Nigerian Government and constitution.

  11. Ok, so we are negotiating with terrorists now... I see. Anyway, @B.Real, you are right when you say they want an islamic state. But you are wrong to say that the rest of Nigeria should give them what they want. Firstly, that's giving in to terrorism, secondly, you are ignoring the millions of Nigerians in the north that do not want Nigeria to split up and be under BH rule.
I think in order to solve this problem, we have to first admit what the problem is. Unfortunately, BH is doing exactly what their quran teaches and I don't think the quran is going anywhere anytime soon. I think the only way to solve this BH problem is to do what the USA did. Just declare an all out war on them!

  12. Its just unfortunate that government never spend national resources on its people appropriately but engage in useless spending to appeace criminals in the name of Boko Haram, Niger Delta militants. This government has no ears for the cries of its down trodden citizen even when terror is being unleashed! Can any one tell me what this government did to remedy the suffering of victims of violence. After election of Jonathan Christians where massacred in the North I am shocked that uptill now federal govt. Never initiated any programme or project to address the suffering and crippling material losses of victims. Forgotten Abi? Not to talk of Blast and sporadic shooting that has become a daily activity in northern Nigeria and 99% against Christians in an open and uncalled for, barbaric and insulting attach on Christianity and Christians while northern Muslin politic with it shamelessly. Recently an ACF scribe suggested that President Jonathan declare that he is not contesting in 2015 to douse tension. Imagine so this is the agenda for which we are being slaughtered and our faith mocked ? Its suffice to say now that in this government its easier to get rich and relevant by creating massive havoc and getting the attention of govt.
