439 Army officers trained on explosives detection

Four hundred and thirty nine officers and men of the Nigerian Army have received training in the detection of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), manning of road blocks, dynamics of terrorism and insurgency among others in Kaduna.

The military personnel, who were drawn from 1Div, Kaduna, 2 Div, Ibadan, 3 Div, Jos, 81 Div, Lagos and 82 Div, Enugu as well as Military Police and Guards Brigade were trained for three weeks on various tactical techniques.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the Quick Response Group Batch 8/12 in Jaji, Commandant of the Counter Insurgency and Counter Terrorism Center, (CTCOIN), Brigadier General Tijjani Golau, said the men were trained on identification of IEDs, cordon and search techniques, search and arrest procedures for suspects, information and intelligence gathering techniques, rescue operations, patrol, raids as well fighting in built-up areas.

“On the whole, the graduating participants are eminently qualified and could be deployed to carry out counter terrorism and counter insurgency task in any part of the country”, he said.

In his remarks, Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry (NASI), Major General Kenneth Osuji, said, “We hope that through your efforts insurgency and terrorism in the country will be efficiently and effectively tackled”.
