Mario Balotelli's Birth Mum works as a £6-an-hour office cleaner to make ends meet

The mum of multi-millionaire footballer Mario Balotelli has a new job to make ends meet… working as a CLEANER at an office block.

And while the Manchester City and Italy star drives to work in his £120,000 Bentley Continental GT, skint Rose Barwuah’s more modest mode of transport is the Number 11 bus.

She is scraping a living doing evening shifts as a Mrs Mop at the offices of a car lease company for close to the £6-an-hour minimum wage.
On Thursday Rose flashed her pass to the bus driver as she made her way for her evening’s work at the block of offices on the outskirts of Cheadle, Greater Manchester.
Before heading into work, she made a short stop-off at budget supermarket Aldi on her way to Lex Autolease.
She later traipsed back to the stop before getting on the Stagecoach bus back to Cheadle village.
Rose, 46, who gave Mario up for adoption when he was two, moved to the Manchester area last Christmas to be close to the £120,000-a-week striker.
She lives on an estate in Wythenshawe, which was used to film Shameless, the Channel 4 comedy about families living on the dole in council houses.
Striker Mario has visited her there several times… stunning residents by turning up his white Bentley.
The source said: “She came over here from Italy with her daughter.
“A lot of people on the estate who know who her famous son is can’t quite believe she is working as a cleaner.
“It is a bit odd that while he is polishing his Premier League winner’s medal she is polishing desks.
“Mario has been round the house, sometimes with his brother Enoch. It is a real sight to see his white Bentley parked up outside.
“It was a surprise to see Rose rock up on this estate when he is earning millions of pounds and lives in a huge house in Alderley Edge.
“But fair play to Rose, she has got on with things and is willing to graft for not a lot of money.
“Apparently she does not want any of Mario’s money. It looks like she is settled here and is here to stay.”
This week Mario, 21, has been pictured larking around on a jetski in Ibiza and drinking champagne with pals on the French Riviera.
But while the Manchester City favourite has been living it up after the Euro 2012 tournament, Rose, who previously worked at Wythenshawe Market, has been living out her more modest existence on the sprawling council estate.
Rose and her husband Thomas, who are from Ghana, gave Mario up for adoption when he was two and he was taken in by the wealthy Balotelli family. They had been advised to give him up because they were living in a tiny flat in Brescia, Italy, and Mario had a life-threatening intestinal condition that was made worse by their cramped conditions.
They later claimed the Balotellis turned Mario against them.
But, talking of attempts to rekindle her relationship with her famous son, Rose has said: “Mario has been over to see me a few times.
“We don’t see each other all the time as he has his life and I have mine.”
The source added: “Rose isn’t afraid of hard work and isn’t scared of getting her hands dirty. She believes in working and having a job.
“She managed to find a job on Wythenshawe market. It was getting up at the crack of dawn and helping to set up the stalls. It meant getting up very early but she was more than willing to do it.
“But the cleaning work in the evenings suits her better with Angel because she can spend more time with her in the mornings. Rose has settled in really well in Manchester and it looks like she has no intention of going back to Italy.
“There has been talk that Thomas will be joining her as well.
“Rose is happy to be near Mario and Angel really likes seeing her famous brother as well as Enoch.
“She has made quite a lot of friends in the area. She is also very religious and really enjoys attending one of the local churches.”
Balotelli, who lives in a rented £3m mansion in Alderley Edge and also drives a £130,000 Maserati and a £60,000 Range Rover, was Italy’s hero at Euro 2012. He fired two goals past Germany to take them into the finals, where they were beaten by Spain.

  1. Now I must confess this is rather unfair on the player! The headline sounded like he abandoned her to rot, while he is living the life, why do newspaper personnel bear false witness... All for money and patronage! It is well... GIA

  3. Oh, mother! You did well by giving him up for adoption and this is adoption working. Not so in some African countries where the boy could have ended up in a ritualist home. The should realize the circumstance and act accordingly. He is gradually drawing nearer the family, I can observe from the story. I congratulate the lady and the hubby. They are not the greedy type.
    God bless all.

  4. The understanding we have is that Mario was dumped in a cabbage/refuse place where the Catholic missionary picked him up.Which story to believe? If it's true that the mother carried him to less privilege home for adoption, the enmity will not be as tough as this.Let's know the true story that's when we can pass right judgement. But in any case,Mario needs to forgive her, since he has accepted her maternal and God has even blessed him now.

  5. Just a weeks pay from this guy to his REAl parents will make them go back to Ghana and set up business--Life abroad has NOT improved their luck--Poor conditions made them give him to richer family--he might have died of poor health-he should show thanks!

  6. Dont just condemn the newspaper Mr. Anonymous. If you have a contrary knowledge of what transpires b/w Balotteli and his mother, pls let us know as well cos he is not the only Ghanaian player that does that. Even Essien abandoned his father to abject poverty while he lives in opulence. If its true, then its not fair cos if this poor woman had not given him up for adoption, he would have inherited her poverty or even die b4 now.

  7. Hmn! Well, maybe Rose and Thomas gave Balo-Balo up for adoption for the boy's own sake, seeing as he had this intestinal complication; but I still cannot fathom giving birth to a child, then giving the child up for adoption by other (strange) parents... absurd, if you ask me. All the same, it tells of a good woman for Rose to simply be content with living close to her given-up son, and eek out a living from mopping floors even when they son can easily afford to lift her out of her austere life. Just watch and see, I see reconciliation; blood is thicker than water.

  8. Mario, mario ur birth was a blessing wraped with a curse to a family whose earning it burden by ur arrival but push u for adoption for ur survival. Mario, super Mario wealth has brought u to the limelight. Torn between two families, adopted and biological, ur heart and ur head is at war, to whom should my love rest on. If i am to advise u, i will say on both equally but above all it should be on God that kept u to see days alive and healthy.

  9. Based upon the real fact that in the beginning,Marios health was life threatening, the parents were forced to give in to adoption because of not able to afford operation.
Who knows if they had not given to adoption the child would have been dead. Mario should think twice & turn back to his mother. Mario should remember,he can never pay his parents for bringing him to the world.
Mario is still young. When his brains are matured, trust me he will satisfy his mother.
There is nothing like sweet mother,I will never forget you for the suffer u suffer for me.

  10. she gave him up for adoption, which meant that she wasn't ready to be his mother, so i don't think its wrong if Balotelli is not helping her

  11. Well as Christians then as Africans No standard among these permit parting with ur child for some other person to bring up. They were weak in faith and accepted a free thinker advice, its a crime but may be born out of dire condition as against weak position of faith. This is not sufficient nor does it make right the action of a child avoiding or leaving his parent in poverty when he lives in abundance. If his parent went wrong we should know that his action is worse than theirs, God will not take his reasons. May God provide us with the needed strength in faith to tread his path Cheers!

  13. People are still making erroneous impression that the woman is the mother.Snap out mate, she lost her right to the dude the day she gave him up for adoption! The chap could have died If the Ballotelli family did not come to his rescue when he was defenseless as a baby. I hope others will learn from the life-long mistake the woman made on Mario?

  14. Guys that is the stress-full life most immigrants leave in Italy due to their racist system Italy is very different from all other civilized western Europe countries in their treatment of African immigrants living there.Mario`s case is just a tip of the iceberg many Nigerian women have lost their babies to the govt their while they are deported nobody cares about their rights.m

  15. Yes, have always heard of Italians as racist people. Balotelli is one in a million and I was surprised that he had an Italian surname so now we know.
Mario owes nothing to his birth mother. In some circumstances, they would have never found each other so live the lad alone. She has a job and is getting on with her life so maybe you guys should mind your own business about what he ought to do or not.
