Magistrate orders Lawyer, 2 Others to frog-Jump for Noise Making

Drama unfolded yesterday during a Court session, when the presiding Chief Magistrate of an Osogbo Magistrate Court, Adewunmi Makanjuola ordered a middle-aged lawyer, Nnajite Okobie, to observe a five-minue frog-jump as a punishment for making noise during the court proceeding.

Makanjuola, who was presiding over a case of alleged Molestation of an 11-year-old primary school girl was apparently disturbed by the noise emanating from Okobie, who was having a conversation with two people suspected to be his clients in the court premises.

He had earlier sent the court orderly to warn him to desist from making noise but he failed to adhere to the warning of the court.
Provoked by the action of Okobie and his two clients, Makanjuola therefore ordered the court orderly to invite the trio before him.

The Chief Magistrate told them to decide on whether to be docked for contempt of court or observe a five-minute punishment of frog-jumping and then ordered the court orderly to sanction the trio by engaging them in a five-minute frog-jump stressing that their action had put the court in disrepute.

It was a sight to behold for the workers of the court. While some were full of pity for Okobie, others were seen making mockery of him.

  1. That type of punishment is humiliating and totally uncalled for! There is no provision in our laws for that kind of dehumanising torture! The NBA must demand for an explanation and possible sanction of this Militarised Magistrate.
As for the Lawyer, he is a true Zombie! I would rather die than be subjected to that type of punishment! Over to you Nigerian Bar Association

  2. Mr. Anonymous that is why you have to be disciplined. The lawyer wasn't behaved well besides, he was warned before the punishment so, why are u complaining?

Some people don't deserve respect just like that particular lawyer, it is good for him. Yes, I love it.

Possibly you are a lawyer Mr. Anonymous I am still on you, please be disciplined otherwise you will be embarrassed like that uncultured noise maker's lawyer one day.

A noise maker lawyer; tell me how u intend controlling your children at home in noise deduction because your noise was measured above 95 db.

Lawyers are expected to show examples at every point in time. I am disappointed with such disgraceful lawyer. Moreover, do not forget " if you don't want to die like Samuel Doe, never you behave like Dog"

  3. sometimes this lawyers do all sort 2 distract the judge or Magistrate as the case may be to distract the presiding judge or magistrate from hearing some vital information as witnesses give evidence. Its not fair sha but I think the lawyer got what he deserved
