Jonathan, ex-heads of state, governors meet on insecurity


President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday met with former Heads of State and governors over the deterioting security situation in the country at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Former President Shehu Shagari; former Head of State, Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar; and former Head of Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, attended the Council of State Meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.
The council consists of the President, Vice President, former Heads of State and governors.
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo; and former military rulers, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, were absent.

A source told our correspondent that the meeting dwelt extensively on the violence in the North.
He added that special focus was given to the Jos crisis.
The source said the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, made a presentation to the council on the insecurity in the country.
He was said to have briefed the meeting on the steps he had so far taken to save the situation since he took over from Andrew Azazi.
He was also said to have called attention to the security crisis in Mali and its implications for Nigeria.
The meeting was also said to have discussed the report of the Justice Alfa Belgore’s Committee on the Recommendations of Past Constitutional Conferences.
Also, the source said the meeting considered the national honours list.
Some of the governors who attended the meeting are Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Jonah Jang (Plateau), Patrick Yakowa (Kaduna), Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom), Sullivan Chime (Enugu); Theodore Orji (Abia), Gabriel Suswam (Benue), Liyel Imoke (Cross River) and Babatunde Fashola (Lagos).
Others are Emmanuel Uduaghan (Delta), Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe), Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), Martins Elechi (Ebonyin), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa) and Peter Obi (Anambra).
Ibrahim Idris (Kogi), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa), and Danbaba Suntai (Taraba) also attended the meeting.
