The Presidency, Wednesday, refuted report that the Federal Government has purchased 200 new “exotic” cars for the African First Ladies Summit which formally opens in Abuja today.
African First Ladies and Heads of Delegation, Admiring the Model of the Permanent Secretariat of African First Ladies Peace Mission (AFLPM) in Abuja on Thursday |
A statement by Dr Reuben Abati, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity said the African First Ladies Peace Mission, AFLPM, which is holding its summit in Abuja is a Non-Governmental Organisation and its activities are funded by stakeholders and members of the private sector who support and identify with its objectives
According to the statement, “in accordance with its modus operandi, the AFLPM set up several committees, including a finance committee to raise funds and sponsorship for the organisation of its Abuja summit.
“As part of its own contributions to the successful hosting of the summit by the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, Coscharis Motors Ltd offered to provide some cars for the event at no cost to the organisers or the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Under an agreement signed by the committee and Coscharis Motors, all the cars will be returned to the company after the summit.

ReplyDeleteWhen will we learn, people are hungry, go slow is almost paralysing business in Abuja and we are putting 200new cars on the street. Pls have mercy on us.
ReplyDeleteCoscharis just supplied 200 brand new cars like that without anything exchanging hands. I wonder the kind of benevolence Coscharis Motors is now. Why not channel such funds to charity homes and the less priviledged. But, Abati, your explanation is too bogus to believe. Yesterday, Coscharis claimed that there was a deal for them to supply 200 cars and now you are saying they just supplied them as part of their contribution to the African First ladies Summit. Who do we believe?
ReplyDeleteLet us forget the reportedly 'exotic' nature of the cars, and go for an average price of N2.5million per car (a car priced as such is surely unbefiting of any self-respecting African First Lady though). We arrive at a total price of N500million. No problems. Assuming Coscharis give them to Madame Jona on loan and takes them back after the soiree, the second-hand value may be N2million each, his loss is N100million. The payback will be manyfold higher than this.
ReplyDeleteNow, shall we all rise and sing; N-i-g-e-r-i-a we hail thee......
I hope Mr. Reuben Abati is keeping a diary of his current service to motherland. Nigerians are looking forward to his memoir.
Sorry, Dr Abati, don't forget all your brilliant contributions before your appointment. you are giving us a make-believe that once you are there, your dance shall be tuned to their beatings. Remember your talk-shows and I give 8 years you shall come back to us.

Abati, ur losing ur integrity by the day. Coscharis has come out to deny they ever gave those cars free. They said someone paid for them and I believe them.
ReplyDeleteAt the average of N2.5m per car as someone suggested, we have like N500m. That's awesome for a country where the average man cannot afford a decent shelter.
