We were forced to fly the faulty plane - Dana Air official

As the Nation continue to mourn the lives lost in the ill-fated Dana Air Crash, More Interesting Revelations show up that suggests that the Dana Airline should be held responsible for the death of hundreds of Nigerians on Sunday.

Speaking with Channels Television anonymously, an official of Dana Air confirmed to the local TV Station that the ill-fated Dana plane had persistent history of faults with its hydraulics in recent times and it was not supposed to have flown at all.

She said the plane was faulty after it left Lagos and stopped in Calabar. She alleged that the Indian owners of the airline threw caution to the wind and insisted that the plane must fly in a bid to maximise profit, thereby sending the plane over to Abuja to pick passengers, when it should have being returned to Lagos for further repair

It should be noted that the same plane had problems with hydraulics and a crash scare while in landed in Lagos in May.

  3. Haba, Dana officials! Will your profits buy lives now that close to 200 persons have been turned to spirits in a jiffy? Those officials, if found culpable, should be publicly executed! Afterall, that is what the Asians do!

  5. The Indians should be made to pay heavy compensation to the families that lost loved ones. Federal Govt should also sanction them heavily for sacrificing the lives of innocent citizens in the name of making profit.

  6. Dana Airline License should be revoked in Nigeria. They are greedy lot. Their aircraft is the longest and carries the highest number of passengers at a time. That is why the death toll is the highest in the history of plane crashes in Nigeria. The first time a plane crashes into residential buildings in Nigeria and killing people relaxing in their homes on a resting day like that Sunday.
Are they also the owners of DANA PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY? If yes, that further confirms the evidences of greediness, and the more reason why they should go back to India.
From reports, they brought a refurbished old-horse that had flown for 32 years and abandoned by the Americans. They knew that this aircraft was having hydraulic problems and sometimes in May had a crashing scare at the Lagos airport. Now they are going to pay compensation for all those that died, and rebuild the damaged buildings. Where then lies the profit that they have tried to maximize, or where they maximizing their BLOOD-BANK?

  7. The indian owner of that Airline must be executes because he has overstayed his welcome in Nigeria, since he knows that, that particular DANA was faulty and persist that it must be used to sentenced the lives of about 153-200 if am not mistaking of Nigerians to death, so shall he be slaughtered to death and God will never accept his soul, and as for the pilot who were forced to fly the faulty plane, don't him have conscience, now he has joined his forefathers in the land of spirit.

  9. This same plane was first acquired and registered (N944AS)by Alaska Airlines on 13th Nov 1990. It initially developed a fault ON 4th Nov. 2002 that affected it's emergency division due to smoke and electrical smell in cabin; light ballast had overheated. It was evacuated 20th Aug 2006, after landing at Long Beach, CA when a chaffed wire bundle arced and produced smoke in the cabin area. It was later stored in Aug 2008 because it was declared unfit to fly in the US as it posed as a threat to end human lives.
It was therefore sent to Maiami, Sept 11, 2008, for maintenance.
That same year on 17th Feb it was eagerly purchased by DANA AIR and registered (5N-RAM)and was delivered 17th Feb 2009. In 2010, 19th April to be precise, it had an emergency landing and lost it's engine power after bird strike to takeoff Lagos (ASN).
Inspite of all this and its other faults that is not formerly recorded, its Owner insisted it kept flying (with little or no maintenance at appropriate times) to maximize profits, and of course, the corrupt Aviation Authorities were not kept in the dark.

WE MUSTN'T BLAME THE INDIANS BUT OURSELVES!
The Federal Govt gave them and others the platform to operate with these condemned ancient Planes. They keep stealing our oil money to hide in foreign banks. The Aviation Authorities should be checked properly or else we shall continue to have more blood on our hands.
NIGERIANS, OUR LEADERS, OUR AUTHORITIES ARE CAUSING THE TRAGEDY THAT BEFALLS US.
    GEJ SHOULD WEEP FOR HIMSELF...
WHILE WE WEEP FOR A LOST NIGERIA!

  10. The blood of the innocents whose lives were cut shot demands justice.Everyone involved should be lawfully punished.Enough of governors & officials saying they called attention to the issues at hand.Obviously they weren't forceful enough as it has resulted in the needless loss of lives.Let the management pay with whatever the law dictates.Whether with their lives or maximun sentences to prison

  11. Bad government, greedy leaders causing innocents families to mourn. There is only one judge - GOD in heaven will repay them if they fail to repent and seek God and put things in order in our dear country Nigeria, before the stones they think they are throwing to innocent souls in other to enrich their pocket turns to hit their families wherever they are been hidden

  13. The slave and the oppressor are collaborators...If the Indians and Lebanese thriving in life wasting businesses in Nigeria are enslaving us in our own land and soil, then it means our system is their sponsor...

  14. Should I leave a comment or not? Why? Comments/talk make no meaning in Naija. If I can help it, Dana air mgt shud ve bn quizzed by now, the minister of aviation wud ve bn sacked by now, other parties involved wud ve bn arrested. This is one of the ways to restore sanity in operations in the country. My people, dont blame any Indian or Lebanese, just ask urself what ve we done with all the checks and balances? Money craze has finished naija n there is no hope in the horizon unless we change our attitude. Am tired of repeating what we all know. Blame goes to everybody in naija 4 sidon look attitude, we need actions not words.

  16. @ Lanre:

Whoa! Scary comment! You are right about not blaming the indians.

I wonder how the Dana air official feels right now, knowing that she contributed to the fate of the passengers. I hate to be in her shoes now. My conscience would definitely eat me raw. We need to be our brother's keeper and stop letting foreigners run our country like it is their personal palace. This really sucks!
