Teenager arraigned for stealing a Blackberry Bold

Sunday Maduka, who is only 18 years old was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly snatching a Blackberry valued N70,000.
Maduka of no fixed address is facing a one-count charge of stealing.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Inedu, told the court that the accused on June 11, at about 6.15 pm at Mile 2 Bridge, Apapa, Lagos, snatched one Blackberry cell phone valued N70,000 belonging to Mr. Peter Bendedict.
Inedu said that following the alarm by the complainant, the accused was apprehended by the people around the area and the telephone was found in his possession.
He said the accused was immediately handed over to the police.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 285 Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
Chief Magistrate Amos Adeyemi granted the accused N50,000 bail with one surety in like sum.
Adeyemi ordered that the surety must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Thank God the jugde is even happy he could have sentenced him death by hanging that is what in place for judges
ReplyDeletePoint of correction, this is a case of stealing and not armed robbery that attracts death penalty. And note that Judges do not pass death sentence at will, they apply the law as given by the Legislature. Under our laws, the offence of armed robbery if established beyond reasonable doubt carries death penalty and nothing less while stealing carries imprisonment.
ReplyDeleteAs much as i appreciaete the speedy prosecution of this teenager for stealing what does not belong to him.However, it would be more appreciated if the bigger thieves are apprehended in accordance with the law of the land as well i.e "POLITICIAN".
