Rev Chris Okotie ends marriage with wife, Stephanie Henshaw

It was a bleak Sunday for the congregation of former pop star turned cleric, Pastor Kris Okotie when he announced the break-up in his marriage of four years to his second wife, Stephanie.

The bad news which enveloped the Household of God Church, Oregun, Lagos stunned members as they stood still and speechless for seconds after he dropped the bombshell shortly to the close of  Sunday service few hours ago.

The Sunday service which coincided with the June's brethren's' birthday celebration had recorded soul lifting songs and dances interspersed with fervent prayers, ministration and cutting of the cake. Okotie, in a sparkling white short-sleeve suit suddenly drew the attention of the church. "Stephanie and I are no longer married. We have separated. You can see she's not in church today. It's due to irreconcilable differences and you should please respect our wishes at this time because there is no going back.

This is Rev Chris Okotie's 2nd failed marriage.

  2. And after the anouncement the congregation dutifully paid their 10% plus the extra donations. Did he also hold and wedding ceremonies?

  4. We are in a free world and more so any marriage of incovenienceies should be separated instead Of nurture pains and agony for a life time.

  5. I usually dont judge pple esp pastors but dis is madness. What example is he showing to his congregation? He divorced d first one, brought d second one out from her matrimonial home and married her. Now he has divorced her again. Wat he is encouraging hia is that if a woman's waist begins to loose flavour, its a ground for divorce. Then he now uses irreconcilable differences to justify d madness. As far as am concerned, d alter is not his calling. He shld go and open a salon and be retouching idle men's hair.

  6. hahahahahaahah funny comments....bt seriously i tink the first commentor is rite....cos my bible teaches me dat God hates divorce..these men of God of nowadays do not practice wat dey preach, cos the married ones in d church look up to these pple for gudiance in their marriage.so wat is d example is he teachin d pple of d church???dat if there is problem in a marriage, they should shy away frm it via divorce instead of lookin for ways to work it out??????a food for tot..tanks.

  9. People STOP this, stop throwing words at this man of God. The bible stated that a man is lawful to divorce his wife in the act of adultery, do you expect him to come to the public to state the reason why he is divorcing his wives? For the ladies, do u think it is easy to be a Man of God's wife. Just think about it - He is a public figure and don't expect anything more than i am divorcing my wife PERIOD!

  10. Can u imagine, a pastor wih little or nothing to offer to the public on marital issues.....May God himself teach us the right way

  11. im soooooooo sad, man of God who i reverence dearly. im not a member of your church but i listen to you on the tv. whilst God has taught me that we dont always take-a-walk each time we get mad at people we have close relationship with, we can perserve, while praying for the "ice to thaw"
i condemn you not but let Godly wisdom prevail.

  14. 1 timothy 3v2 "...official of d church must hv gud reputatn & b faithful in marriage..." what we shld 1st understand is dat our mr. Pastor missed it 4r d very start if he would accept d truth. D bible teaches dat a man is 2 b married 2 a woman only, 4 d rest his lyf & also applicable 2 d woman except death. Dis implies, dat d 2nd wife was not&neva his wife at any pt in tym & all what they had 2gether was ungodly & not biblical. His 1&only wife stil remains d 1st divorced wife. So, if I were him I'd make peace with God by goin back 2 d 1st or remain single till death do us part if we can't work out our differences. But we shld work it out cos we're born again christians.

  15. By their fruit we shall know them. Christianity can never be broght to it's knees by anybody and God will continue to be with his church till the end of time. Those establishing empires in the name of church will all come out and show themselves.God Will Remain The Unchangeable God.Shikina!

  16. @10.37,oouch!,lol...about him retouching idle's hair,lol.
We i aint gonna judge, but wat is he teaching his congregation?cos now they'll belive divorce is cool, since dia man of God has divorced twice.
Also,i'm pretty sure if he sought God's face b4 he married,God would hv told him whether to go ahead or stay back,God is a gud God,he will never put his children to shame,so dis pastor shud b sincere with himself,he was probably carried away by some of her qualities that he didnt take time to seek God's face, hence d 'irreconcilable differences'.

  19. Brethren,we must not allow this man to fall away from the fold of Christ. He started being Christ-like by preaching Jesus Christ is LORD!
His two Legs are shaking now hence, the heavy Load on his shoulders. If we can not help him lift the
Load off we must encourage him to put the Load down to become a free man devoid of little little
besetting sins.We must drag this man to heaven if he is refusing to be carried.Remain blez.

  22. I have this to say> i am a member of pastor Chris church> I pray and thank God for him every day because of the kind of teaching he gives. My husband does not see it as a crime to help with the house chores! and it is glaring that I come first before our two children! I"ve been a christian for over !%yrs but getting to his church after I married my husband I understood and experienced what worship really is! I do not know what to say! I know this man Loves God and shows the right path to others! I wonder what is happening! and I feel guilty! How often do we really pray for our men of God?! I know my God whom I serve! why would a man lead me astray? I will go astray if it is in my mind to do so! let us be real! God alone is judge! Meanwhile someone said He divorced his first wife! this man did all he could to let her stay, He pleaded and waited for her to come around! she insisted! He made sure he saw to her upkeep even after they seperated! He waited for !0yrs to see if she"ll come around! He never teaches us to jump out of marriage! but all of you judging wait to be in circumstances like his and do what You are proclaiming is right before you judge! the example might not be appropriate but I am just inferring how God works! Moses married an Egyptian woman and Aron amd Mariam were in d fore front judging him. God intervened and His judgement? who made Aron and Mariam judge over his servant! I know I will be castigated for this, but mind how you run your mouth about what you don't know! God help us all to make his kingdom! shallom!

  23. What do you expect from a showman turned man of gud? Remember this second wife was his friend ex-wife. It appears something is wrong somewhere, remember this man is also a politician. This exposition is shameful to say the least from him that says till death do you part. Tell us whether it is not for better for worse in this church

  28. Judge not that ye shall not be judge. It is very easy to criticise someone else, but wait 4 ur own challenges to come and see how u'll respond 2 d situation. Leave d man alone 4 God if he's wrong in God's opinion He'll deal with him, bible is xtian manual on how to live ur life, God will not listen my pastor did this something and i did it too becos u tot he was right, read ur bible. Many believe Aristotle 4 a long time that heavy object fall down faster than d light object b4 someone decided to do reaserch and found out it was wrong do urs with ur bible.

  39. ...he is only human.Everyone should know God for himself/herself,and see what the bible says about marriage and if u follow it,ur marriage will definitely not go wrong.
Everyone can have the marriage of their dreams if they belive, also every marriage can work and every marriage can fail,it depends on how willing both parties are to make it work.

You are welcome to David's Christian Centre(DCC),every 1st sunday evening in "Love Dating and Marriage" where different issues in marriage/or relationships are thrashed out.

  40. In my honest opinion,if ur church does not satisfy you as per helping you to know and serve God better, and your pastor cannot conveniently be ur spiritual guide and shepherd, pls prayerfully relocate to another church.Th scriptures admonishes that we be examples to believers and unbelievers alike.Does pst Chris have a spiritual guide at all? if Yes who can that be? What is such persons' history and upto date? Jesus said "follow me and I will make you..."

  42. Any man of God should show example no matter what happened. You don't just go and pick anybody in the street and marry him or her out of infatuation. That is why many of these marriages fail. A man of God who teaches others the word of God should have prayed himself for God to give him his own wife before dabbling into marriage. Our God is not God of confusion. If he had done that with all sincerity and commitment, he would not have fallen into this type of despicable condition. You cannot justify this divorce. The person that is giving Moses as an example should know that Moses did not divorce his first wife before marrying the second one. Secondly, that was in the old testament when their condition was different from the New Testament we have with God today. Most of our problems today come from us especially when we deviate from God's instruction and we blame Satan for that. May God help us.

  44. Before their marriage this pastor called out this woman to the alter introduce her to his flock that God has directed them to be couples. when she was leaving the alter he said in igbo language that she is very beautiful during church service!

He also said God also revealed that he would be president of this country. He was heavily involved in politics something christians ought not to be involved in just as Jesus rejected the people of his day trying to make him king and he Jesus, also warn his disciples to keep separate from this world politics pre-informing them that they (Politicians)would persecute them as he was also.

It is him also that would want to impress his flock with his grammar instead of using simple language to pass the message. Does he think if Jesus wanted to use grammar he can compete?

People here are defending him, some say they have been attending his church for years and know God cannot misdirect them, when Jesus warned that it is you who would know by making sincere not a bias prayer to God as to where we should worship. While others say thou shall not judge. It is right not to judge but not wrong at all to expose falsehood!

How can he say God revealed something to him and the flock have seen that all such revelations come to nothing, when would the scales in their eyes fall off? All the so called revelations are just mere dreams and infatuations please people should open their eyes and see that when further 'revelations' from their so called man of God they should remember that those previous ones were never fulfilled and surely not from God.
