ONLINE COMMENTS: N/E Readers react to Chris Okotie’s separation from wife

Mixed reactions have continued to surround the announcement made on Sunday by Head Pastor, Household of God Church, Rev. Chris Okotie, that his marriage to Stephanie Henshaw had ended due to irreconcilable differences.

While most of the comments are uncomplimentary, a few people are at a loss as to the reasons behind the break-up of the union of the glamorous couple

"We are in a free world and more so any marriage of inconveniences should be separated instead Of nurture pains and agony for a life time"

"People STOP this, stop throwing words at this man of God. The bible stated that a man is lawful to divorce his wife in the act of adultery, do you expect him to come to the public to state the reason why he is divorcing his wives? For the ladies, do u think it is easy to be a Man of God's wife. Just think about it - He is a public figure and don't expect anything more than i am divorcing my wife PERIOD!"

While others strongly condemned his decision....

"wonders shall never end,mr pastor."

"I usually dont judge pple esp pastors but dis is madness. What example is he showing to his congregation? He divorced d first one, brought d second one out from her matrimonial home and married her. Now he has divorced her again. Wat he is encouraging hia is that if a woman's waist begins to loose flavour, its a ground for divorce. Then he now uses irreconcilable differences to justify d madness. As far as am concerned, d alter is not his calling. He shld go and open a salon and be retouching idle men's hair."

"did he say'irreconciliable difrences'? My oh My,shld ther b tins lyk dat btween so-called xtians? so wat he is sayin is dat ther ar ofences he cant 4giv or overluk? This is intrestin.is it posibl dat he wil go in search of a 3rd wyf? God hav mercy!"

"What do you expect from a showman turned man of gud? Remember this second wife was his friend ex-wife. It appears something is wrong somewhere, remember this man is also a politician. This exposition is shameful to say the least from him that says till death do you part. Tell us whether it is not for better for worse in this church"

Others were concerned about his past musical career instead....

"I HAVE NO BAD COMMENT TO MAKE AGAINST ANY BODY,I HAVE LISTENED TO CHRIS OKOTIE MUSIC WHEN HE WAS A YOUTH,I WAS WODERFUL;I SUGGEST HE RESUME HIS MUSIC CAREER,I LUV HIS MUSIC"

While some decided just to be neutral....

"The comment is already in the Bible"

"It's sad. So sad to even comment. It's only the Lord that knows them that are His. We will all understand in the 'bye n bye'"

On August 7 and 8, 2008, the former musician, popular pastor and presidential candidate, Rev. Kris Okotie married Stephanie Henshaw. The wedding was a colourful celebration of the couple who had both been previously married.

The former musician, a law graduate, had been divorced from his first wife, Tyna, for over a decade while then 38-year old Stephanie had tasted two earlier marriages and had three children from the earlier marriages. Okotie’s marriage to Stephanie was his second attempt at matrimony. He was first married to Tyna for 17 years, but the marriage packed up without any child.

The Household of God welcomed the new bride. Though she did not have a formal role within the church, Stephanie was well-loved by the congregation.

Therefore, when Pastor Okotie announced on Sunday: “Stephanie and I are no longer married. We have separated. You can see she’s not in church today. It’s due to irreconcilable differences…you should please respect our wishes at this time because there is no going back;” it caused a great deal of confusion and discussion.

No additional details have been released on the specific cause of the split.

Okotie, a charismatic preacher that often sends his audience into ecstasy, maintains a regular television and radio programme known as ‘The Apocalypsis,’ where he always reveals his knowledge of the Bible Book of Revelations beyond the ordinary and in a very complicated language which has prompted many to go to church with one or two dictionaries.

  1. I do not think Okotie will want to divorce his wife again. It must have been for a very serious reason. The wife is yet to talk.In issues like this is women that cry fowl first. Her silence speaks volumes.
I am personally disappointed that this happened but we should learn to judge after we have the complete story.I seriously think that there is something they do not want to talk about.

  3. THERE WAS NO MARRIAGE IN THE FIRST INSTANCE BETWEEN THESE TWO PEOPLE AS FAR AS GOD IS CONCERNED. AS A CHRISTIAN AND EVEN MORE-SO AS A MAN OF GOD, HE KNOWS THIS VERY FACT. BIBLE DETEST DIVORCE IN ITS ENTIRETY AND ANY ONE INVOLVED MUST REMAIN SINGLE FOR THE REST OF HIS/HER LIFE AS LONG AS HIS/HER SPOUSE REMAINS ALIVE, WHICH IS THE CASE OF PASTOR CHRIS. SO THEREFORE MAYBE OUR DEAR PASTOR HIS RETRACING HIS STEPS BACKWARD BY ANNOUNCING THIS DIVORCE, JUST MAYBE. THIS ARGUMENT MAYBE SUBSTANTIATED IF HE NEVER GETS MARRIED IN THE NEAREST FUTURE!

  5. This is amazing, what is it with church pastors marrying 2 or 3 times and then divorcing their spouses. marriages amongst the clergy has become a joke. It's the same nonesense thats happining in America. Paula white and her ex husband are now divorced for the second time, the same with Juanita Brynam, and i have read about so many other preachers. I know as christians we go through challenges in marriages but what is happening now surely isn't biblical. It's funny Mega Teleevangelist Paula and ex husband used the same excuse 'irreconcilable differences'

  6. It just goes to confirm that these so-called 'men of (G)od' are indeed like you and I. It is time we wake up and stop being allowed to be fooled by our fellow men and women.

  7. Mr. or Ms. Savage, your comment has no basis on this matter. Why do people like you condemn people in the same field for a perceived failure of one of their kind? Moreover, like you said, the men of god are ordinary people used by God to do His work on earth. you cannot throw out the baby with the bath water. when you listen to them preach, listen to hear God's voice beneath theirs. Do not get attached to the message. Shackle yourself to the word of God for in them you have life, regardless of the messenger. Not all pastors will go to heaven. Coming to pastor Kris, no one knows the burden he is carrying now like he does, He knows the scriptures. Leave him to His Master. none of us has any right to judge him. Our bounden duty is to pray for him to overcome his travails - don't add to it with so many unkind words.
