The Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment, Tunji Bello, on Thursday said the Wednesday and Thursday heavy rains would occur again in the state many times within the next two weeks.
Bello added that the rains would be accompanied with severe windstorm. He said experts had stated that the next two weeks were envisaged to be the peak period of this year’s rainy season.
Bello said, “I want to particularly advice residents living along low line areas of Eti-Osa, Badiya, Amukoko, Makoko, Iwaya, Ajegunle, Owode and Agiliti to vacate these areas during this period and move to upland.
“As a proactive and responsive administration that is committed to the overall wellbeing of its citizenry, this warning became necessary in order to sensitise Lagosians, particularly those that reside in flood prone areas, to be on the alert in order to prevent loss of lives and property.”
He urged residents of the state to desist from acts that could lead to flooding, including dumping of waste into canals and erecting of structures along drainage channels.

ReplyDeleteAnd then: "I want to particularly advice residents living along low line areas to vacate these areas during this period"
A true administration committed to the wellbeing of his citizenry as you said will not tell them only to vacate that area, you will provide basic shelter for victims, open up a relieve center for such incident, provide basic care for them and not just tell them to vacate their homes alone.
God help us. Aloy jerry
