President Goodluck Jonathan has said that power supply in Nigeria will be among the best 20 in the world in the next eight years.
The president gave the assurance on Thursday in Lagos at the 40th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN).
Represented by Dr Samuel Ortom, Minister of State for Trade and Investment, he said, ``we will do everything possible to address the structural weaknesses standing between us and revolutionising the power sector.
``Some of the problems are deep, but not beyond the government. We are currently reviewing the lapses in the power sector to make it one of the best in the world in the year 2020.
``Nigeria is on the threshold of history, ready to join the world economic powers in the very near future.''
He also said that the emphasis of government was to promote the processing of the nation’s natural resources for consumable commodities.
The president said that this would also beef up ``our export portfolio'', adding that Nigeria could not continue to import more than it exported.
He said that the government’s effort at attracting local and foreign investors into the economy was yielding positive results.
``More than 16,000 local and foreign investors have registered their intentions to do business worth about N6.6 trillion in just one year,” he said.
The president lauded the MAN’s blueprint to boost the sector, assuring them that the considerations of the blueprint would be highly valued by the government and put to work.
He said, “It will be the impetus for industrial revolution, which we desire to see as a nation.''
The MAN President, Mr Kola Jamodu, said that the manufacturing sector was one of the most powerful engines for economic growth and a catalyst for transformation of the nation’s economic structure.
``Manufacturing, when driven by modern technology, has higher growth prospects, acts as antidote for unemployment, creates wealth and is the threshold for sustainable development,” he said.
Jamodu said that MAN recognised the bold vision for the manufacturing sector as contained in the Vision 20:2020.
He, therefore, called for the accelerated development of manufacturing sector in Nigeria to complement the vision of government. (NAN) Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday

Fuck him... There he goes again with one his lies. Can a good for nothing guy who promise better electricity every year live up to expectations or is he saying campaigning indirectly?
ReplyDeleteI dont even need to read this kind of story. Pls lets put it where it belongs ...in the TRASH CAN.
ReplyDeleteHe is a useless man
ReplyDeleteHe is just making empty noise let him first tackle the Boko Haram Issue before delving into such a huge task that so many ex-presidents has failed to address!
ReplyDeleteYour comments above shows you are all empty. Make your researches on how far Govt. has gone as per power generation, transmission and distribution before typing rubbish with your filthy fingers. You'll think Nigeria will move forward with all these curses? Hell No!
ReplyDeletecan the President tell us what level of this super energy supply will be achieved before the end of your tenure. i thought energy is top priority in your agenda for your peolpe Mr. president.
ReplyDeletepls dont dissappoint those of us who still believes in your promise for light.
Mr.President, if you're trying to crack a joke, then how about this one - Nigeria already has the best power supply system in the world. With over 20,000MW generated from over 1million power generators, what system could be better? Now away from the joke. Basic things to promote and attract industrial investment are still lacking. How about your gas supply chain? How about the poor safety standards that even government establishments are most guilty of? How about the almost non-existent police force that are only your "friend" when you have plenty of money (that friendship could sometimes involve killing you to get the money)? How about the extensive looting and corruption in high places that go on right at your door step? How about roads and basic infrastructure to support investments and normal daily living? Existing investments keep folding up, including large manufacturing companies and small businesses.
ReplyDeleteMr.President, we want to see you succeed outstandingly, but all we keep getting are controversial decisions and statements that make us wonder what kind of advisers you have and what goes on in your mind when you think, whereas there are basic unaddressed decisions all around you to help Nigeria move forward. I know it is not an easy seat but I earnestly pray for the sake of our childrens future that you get yourself together very soon before Nigeria completely crumbles around you.
