Thursday May 31 2011, Gov. Rotimi Amaechi signed a bill which would basically ensure that he continues to enjoy the perks of the governor’s office after leaving the office. The bill, which is titled The Rivers State Governor and Deputy Governor Pensions and Fringe Benefits Bill 2012, is the brainchild of the executive and was forwarded from the Governor’s Office to the House of Representative for a speedy passage.
Despite immense protestations from pressure groups in the state, the Rivers State House of Assembly went ahead to pass the bill on the 22nd of May by an overwhelming majority. And the sweetened deal was finalised yesterday with Governor Amaechi’s assent.
Consequently, Amaechi and his deputy, Tele Ikuru are entitled upon exit from office to benefits including:
100 per cent of their basic salaries
Two choice houses in any area of their choice in Rivers State and Abuja.
Three cars, replaceable every three years.
300 per cent funding for any furniture of their choice.
20 per cent funding for utility, 10 per cent funding for entertainment and 10 per cent of same for houses of their choice.
Free medical expenses for him and his immediate family.
Security details that will include two officials of the State Security Service (SSS), one female officer of the same department and eight police officers for personal and domestic security.
Domestic staff including a cook, steward, gardener, and others. All the domestic staff, including drivers shall be pensionable.
In addition to the executive perquisites bill, other bills signed into law by the governor on Wednesday include the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Amendment Bill 2012, the Rivers State Senior Secondary Schools’ Board Bill 2012, the Rivers State House of Assembly Service Commission Amendment Bill 2012 and the Rivers State Water Sector Development Law 2012. Democracy is government of the people by the people and most importantly FOR the people! Governor, God is watching you o! Why continue to steal from the electorate years after you've left office. This is absolute greed & abuse of public trust. May God in His infinite wisdom "reward" you and your family appropriately.
ReplyDeleteGov , don't reward yourself. It's God will reward a man for his good work
ReplyDeletei was one of those that admired you b4.By this you have shown that you are not different from other.God will judge you on the last day
ReplyDeleteYour government officials will do for themselves as they see fit so long as YOU the people allow it. It your representatives would agree to this you should vote them OUT of office and replace them with people who have your own best interest at heart. You have NO ONE to blame but yourself. They will continue to steal from you until YOU stop them.
ReplyDeleteSomething like this could never happen hear in the U.S. and people not boot them out of office immediately.
My consolation is that God is the judge of all men. Each shall be held accountable for his/or her actions.
ReplyDeleteThis is confirmation that power corrupts and abosolute powers corrupts absolutely. This is real abuse of the office of the Governor and betrayal of the trust of the people that voted for the Governor and the Member of the House of assembly into office. The so-called River State House of Assembly who voted unanimously for this Bill should bow their heads in shame for aiding and abetting pilferage and looting of the coffers of the River State Government. Such ridiculous pronouncements or Bill is why many civilized people still see Nigeria as a developing and corrupt nation. Even Abraham Lincoln and George Washington who were the best thing that happened to the U.S.A. never asked for such concession. Shame on you and to those that voted for such a ridiculous Bill. This is a travesty.
ReplyDeleteGood deal!!!
ReplyDeleteThief Amaechi, God will Punish you and all your cohorts who continue to steal from Nigeria
ReplyDeleteand you know what most of the rivers state people are the most docile of all nigerians, so why wont a jaw ripping, insane, bogus governor commit such act, he will, cos they're are the same people who'll aplaud him and give reasons why he should....ignoramusuims
ReplyDelete"i am the state" officially approved by his people to do as he is pleased. say bad about him and u get enemies for that.i hope the insane rythm93.7 "funky 4 plus 4" is aware of this depravity.
ReplyDeleteWhy do we Nigerians always defer all actions to "God". The good book say - God helps those who help themselves. If we don't take action, these guys will just carry-on .......
ReplyDeleteWhat you should ask yourself is thi; What makes people steal money? Greed and if its not greed its insecurity of the future? Now he is securing his future so that he does not steal i suppose. If my assumption is right then so be it. Bills can always be amended by incoming governors .
ReplyDeletethis is madness
ReplyDeleteI'VE ALWAYS KNOW AMAECHI TO BE A THIEF, MASQUERADING UNDER THE TITLE OF "BENEVOLENT GOV'NOR", SO THIS COMES AS NO SURPRISE; I'VE LIVED IN PORT HARCOURT FOR 16 YEARS.
ReplyDeleteHE USED VIOLENCE TO GET INTO OFFICE (2008 RIOTS), PAYED LIP SERVICE, LIED & STOLE (FALSE CONTRACTS) TO GET RE-ELECTED, HE IGNORES DEVELOPMENT IN HIS STATE WHERE & WHEN HE CAN (EXCEPT THE ONES FOR POLITICAL GAINS), NOW HE'S GUNNING FOR MORE; AND I DON'T MEAN JUST THIS PENSION - THE SENATE/ PRESIDENCY MAYBE?
HE'S NO DIFFERENT FROM OTHERS SO WHY SHOULD THIS NEWS BE A NEW THING? YOU CAN TAKE THE THUG/ HOUSEBOY OUT OF THE GHETTO BUT NOT THE GHETTO OUT OF THE THUG/ HOUSEBOY.
I'M OUT.
U CAN NOT CALL SOME1 A THIEF, A THIEF KNOWS THAT HE IS. IF AFTER IN OFFICE HE IS NOT SATISFIED WITH WHAT HE GETS DEN SHOULD HE AFTER JETTING OUT FROM OFFICE BE SATISFIED. PEOPLE CALL THEMSELVES LAW MAKER WHY DEY ARE NOT CAPABLE. AM SO HAPPY DAT DIS COUNTRY STILL HAVE A REPUTABLE RESPONSIBLE PEOPLE AND THAT BILL WILL BE REVERSIBLE(FOR SURE) COME NEXT ELECTIONIARY DISPENSATION.
