Boko Haram sponsorship: Court insists on Ndume’s trial

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday ruled that Senator Mohammed Ndume must face trial on four counts of terrorism preferred against him by the Federal Government.

The court maintained that having perused the four-count criminal charge against the lawmaker by the Federal government, it was satisfied that he had a link with the sect, saying such nexus was enough to warrant his prosecution.

Consequently, Justice Gabriel Kolawole, declined to quash the charge against him, just as he fixed July 3 and 10 for the Federal Government to produce its witnesses. Senator Ndume who is representing Borno South Senatorial District.

Ndume was accused of furnishing the Boko Haram sect with classified information that aided their operations in the country.

He was arrested by the State Security Service, SSS, on November 21, 2011 and charged before the high court on December 12, sequel to his indictment by a self confessed Spokesman of the sect, Ali Sanda Umar Konduga, as one of their major sponsors.

According to the Federal Government, the offence he committed was contrary to section 7(1) (b) of the Terrorism (Prevention) Act, 2011 and punishable under Section 7(1) of the same Act.
