Less than 24 hours after the suspected Islamic sect members attacked churches in Kaduna and Zaria, Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, today came under a siege following heavy gunfire and bomb blasts as soldiers attached to the Joint Task Force on Operation Restore Order engage suspected Boko Haram fighters in a bloody duel.
Residents of the city said they panicked and locked themselves up in their homes.
An eye witness said the attackers were attempting to take over the government house, adding that there was also an explosion at the Potiskum Prison which is in the state.
Though details of the attackers and their targets are still sketchy, JTF commander, Col. Dahiru Abdulsalam said there are reports that Boko Haram members were presently hiding out within a primary school.
He also said that his men have moved into the town and the situation has been brought under control. This has however not been independently verified.
Many residents of the town are trapped outside the town and those within have taken refuge.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, their goal is not to get Nigeria separated, it is to see Nigeria become an islamic state. Why would you just assume that the 50 million people in northern Nigeria all want to separate from the country because a few boko haram guys are making trouble? Besides, how does blowing up towns in the north translate to the "north" wanting to split from the south? That makes no sense to me. When are you guys in the south going to realize that this is not a political thing... it's religious!! They are doing these things because allah tells them to in the quran!
