'4 fake pastors' arrested in Kogi

The Kogi State Police Command has arrested four pastors and three others for allegedly attempting to cheat some people during a revival programme in the state.

They are Bishop Bamidele Abraham of Eagle Kingdom Church, Pastor Chuks Ingalis Kelvin, Pastor Chinedu Okosisi and Pastor Samson Prince. The others are Osita Chuckwu, Samuel Ike and Nnenanaya Anthony Ikechukwu, all from River state.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Kastina, said the suspects, who pretended to be pastors were arrested while conducting ‘deliverance’ for people during a revival programme organized by one of them in Lokoja.

According to him, Bishop Bamidele, who is with the Eagle Kingdom Church, contacted Pastor Chuks and others from Port Harcourt to help raise money for his book launch.

“Chuks, who is an expert in deceiving people came to Lokoja with his team who would pretend as if they are possessed with ‘mermaid spirit,’ deaf and dumb during the revival in order to win the confidence of the people who would attend the revival programme.

“Mid way into the programme, one of the attendees felt uncomfortable with the manner in which they were conducting the deliverance, which was by asking people to donate money for the launch of a book by the host pastor, Bishop Bamidele Abraham. He then lodged a complaint at the command, and we swung into action. We arrested the fake prophet who confessed that they were con men,” he said.

Speaking to journalists, Pastor Chuks said what they did was an exhibition of professionalism and that every professional has his own way of survival.

“This is not robbery, it is pure professionalism. Every profession has its own method. The police have their own, lawyers have their own, even journalists have their own way. What I did is pure business and survival instinct,” he said.

Osita Chukwu, who posed as someone possessed with ‘mermaid spirit’ said she was promised N16, 000, but that she was given N1, 000 as advance, and was expected to collect the balance after the programme.
