Senate Confirms Bianca’s Nomination As Ambassador

Bianca OjukwuThe Senate on Wednesday confirmed the nomination of Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu, wife of the late Ikemba Nnewi, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, as ambassador.

Ojukwu’s confirmation followed the consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs following which her nomination was unanimously approved by all the Senators.

She was nominated as an ambassador by President Goodluck Jonathan along with 87 other nominees but was unable to attend the screening with other nominees following the death of her husband.

The Sen. Matthew Nwagwu (PDP-Imo) led committee on Foreign Affairs eventually screened her on April 25 and recommended that she be confirmed as an ambassador.

Senate President David Mark in a brief remark said he was convinced that Ojukwu would represent the country to the best of her ability.

“I believe she will represent us very well; I also congratulate the women because that makes up for their 35 per cent affirmation action and even more.”
The Senate also confirmed the nomination of Dr Saleh Okenwa as a member of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
Okenwa is a Sheikh from Imo, and Mark congratulated the state for producing a Sheikh.

Meanwhile, a Bill for an Act to amend the Companies Income Tax 2004 and for Matters connected therewith was stood down by the Senate.
The Bill was stood down to another legislative day due to the non availability of the old Act, which the bill sought to amend.

Sponsor of the bill, Sen. Andy Uba (PDP-Anambra) agreed to stand down the bill following a point of order raised by Sen. Ganiyu Solomon (ACN-Lagos).

Solomon drew the attention of the Senate to the fact that the sponsor ought to have made available copies of the existing Act which he sought to amend to allow senators make informed contributions.

The Senate President sustained Solomon’s position and ruled that the bill be stood down and advised Uba to ensure that copies of the existing law were circulated to the senators as soon as it was possible.

  1. God is not asleep. He is doing great work for us Nigerians and for our lovely country. Let his promises be anchored in your heart. Have faith in Him. God is not asleep over what is happening. Keep praying for this nation and her present government. Isaiah 3: 10 says, it is well. Only God can put an end to every urgly trend in this country, in Jesus name. Please, say amen!
Say always, JOB 22:29 “When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; He shall save the humble person. My hope, courage, and strength every day to live for.
