Police Arraign 3 Men For Alleged Forgery Of NYSC Certificates

The Police on Thursday arraigned three men, Oba Ganiyu, Ishola Sulu and Owonikoko Ademola before an Abuja Senior Magistrates' Court, charged with criminal conspiracy and forgery.

The three accused persons, who live in Ilorin, Kwara, are said to have forged NYSC certificates.

Police prosecutor Monday Akor told the court that the matter was reported by Anthony Nzoka of the NYSC Headquarters, Abuja, at the Maitama Police Station on March 6.

He said that between February and March, the accused conspired with one Anyara, a former staff of NYSC Headquarters, Maitama, Abuja, who is now at large, to forge an NYSC exemption certificate.

Akor added that the accused later presented the forged certificates to Olagunju Florence and Opasina Eunice, who are fresh graduates, and demanded for money from them.

He said the accused knew that the certificates were not genuine but he went ahead and presented them to the victims.
Akor said the accused admitted conspiring with the said Anyara to commit the crime.

He said the offences contravened Sections 97 and 364 of the Penal Code, but the accused pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

Chief Magistrate Oyeyipo Ademuyiwa granted the accused bail in the sum of N250,000 with one surety each in like sum.

Ademuyiwa said the surety, who must be a civil servant not below Grade Level 9, must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

He ordered also that the surety must submit his or her two passport photographs to the court registrar, and adjourned the case till May 24 for hearing.
