PHCN to Nigerians: 'Don't contribute money to buy transformers'

The Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) has frowned at allegations that it was collecting monies from members of the public as contributions for the purchase of power transformers.

Mrs Vera Osuhor, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jos Electricity Distribution zone, told the News Agency (NAN) on Sunday that PHCN had never initiated such contributions.

She, therefore, advised people against succumbing to such request from anyone.

"PHCN does not sell transformers; we have standard ones for the public and no one needs to pay for what they deserve."

Osuhor advised members of the public to report any PHCN staff seeking such contribution, and described any such call as "criminal and uncalled for".

"It is not legally right for the public to contribute money for PHCN to provide transformers for their use. It is not within our power".

"When somebody tells you that, you should know it is not legal. And such activities should be reported to us as quickly as possible."

She cautioned members of the public against confusing contributions initiated by the state governments as part of community development efforts toward rural electrification programmes to mean any subtle efforts by PHCN staffers to exploit customers.

According to Osuhor, such contributions are usually initiated by community development officers and had nothing to do with PHCN offices.

The CEO also commented on other alleged unwholesome activities of PHCN officers, saying that the electricity company had "zero tolerance’’ for any shoddy deal, vowing that any one caught would be severely dealt with.

``We have always said it, and I want to repeat it here. We have no room for bad eggs and shall never accept their activities in our midst.

``In fact, we have set up a special disciplinary committee to deal with such erring staffers. The few that were found guilty of wrong doings have been dismissed.

``And, we are always ready to dismiss anyone involved in any unwholesome behaviour.’’

On staff welfare, Osuhor said that some incentives had been put in place to motivate PHCN towards optimum productivity.

She lauded the Power Minister, Prof. Barth Nnaji, for his efforts to ensure a better package for PHCN staff.

Osuhor said the Jos zone was facing many challenges and expressed optimism that such problems would not affect the quest for improved power supply.

  2. Fellow Nigerians, it is with great surprise to hear that people are trying to persuade our dear President – Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to have a direct talk with the so called Boko Haram killers. Where on earth should such destroyers call on their president without any bit of regard on his person / office, issue an automaton of going to commit more havoc to lives and properties should the president fail to yield to their call?
The Evil Agender Uknow to Nigerians
(1). In abid to actualize the EVIL agenda of the BOKO HARAM, president GEJ has been marked to be killed in disguise of requesting that a direct talk with him should be organized.
This is a set up by whoever that did it, to have Nigerian president killed (this Ijaws will not take lightly), throw Nigerians into War, spilt the nation, disrupt the government of a southerner which is the bedrock of NORTHERNERS PROVOKATION.
(2). GEJ is neither a weak nor I- don’t- Care Leader as many have summarized him for. The truth remains that supporters of BOKO HARAM are almost in every sector of GEJ government, including both the National Assembly and the Judiciary. GEJ is not alone in government, he adopts team spirit in relating with his cabinet which majorly have Boko Haram Fans.
(3). GEJ means WELL for Nigerians, even till now! Forces against his government from within and without are numerous. We all owe him our prayers to deliver. Boko Haram or its likes has discovered that killing GEJ is the most easiest way to finally distabilised not only Southern person as president but as well destroy Nigeria. A killer is a tool in the hands of Satan to carry out his act of Klling, stealing, and destroying. Boko Haram has the spirit of the devil who means No GOOD FOR ANY ONE. The truth is Nobody can successfully end BH. Kill all her members / Fans, in the process of time the spirit goes into others willing to achieve the devils aim. Adam and Eve were recorded as the ones who obeyed the devil’s voice, thereby sinning against God. They are dead, yet sin is still been committed by so many in this world. The spirit behind BH is of Satan. You can only minimize the effect of their existence but not to totally eradicate them. Only God can. But this will happen when Satan, his followers, and his agents are finally thrown into the LAKE OF FIRE.
In case you are in doubt of this writeup, simply note this date, and make documentation of this writeup and watch events that unfold in the years ahead.

Surely, a revolution that will lead to serious murder of our past leaders and others who are enemies of Nigeria is eminent. Let God open your eyes. You should prepare for the WORST POSSIBLE NOT THE WORST PROBABLE. The northerners have their secret agenda.
Late Abacha tried to Islamised Nigeria, he failed. Look at the Shape of National Assembly complex – that of mosque! Be wise Nigerians. Be reahy for the untold about events happening, so that you will not be taken unaware. Make peace with God and prepare for the coming of Jesus Christ.
God save Nigeria, Nigerians who are true patriots, help GEJ to take Nigeria forward in Jesus name, amen.

  3. funny! My area at shangisha Ikosi,we are still contributing 5k per house to get an old or fairly used transformer from the PHCN office. Right now the contribution is still going on.

The CEO is just saying rubbish. If we dont contribute to get transformer,is she goin to give us a new one.

  4. Ask the CEO if she does not collect UP N250K as a prerequisite for issuing permit to construct from PHCN contractors. How many transformers has she installed in her zone with the community not contributing. We all know just like the police would say Bail is free n your right. Madam stop talking trash. Just sit down n enjoy your loot.

  5. it is a pity dat we are in a country like dis where things are never done right. d ceo knows abt the contribution she is just trying to make her self look innocent. currently in my area at awoyaya ibeju-lekki we ve not had light for over one month as a result of bad transformer which was revealed that PHCN brought a fairly used transformer in place of a new one. since then nothing has been done and nothing will be done until we contribute money for either the repair or purchase of a new one, but one thing i know for sure is that every body will be rewarded accordingly

  6. In my area in Ojota, we've not had light for about two weeks because of faulty transformer. We're presently contributing money to procure a new one.
