Peru beat Nigeria 1-0

Nigeria’s Super Eagles were beaten 1-0 in an international friendly played on Thursday morning at the Estadio Nacional in Lima.

In the match was played at 8a.m local time (2a.m Nigerian time), the only goal was scored by Hamburg’s Paolo Guerrero in the 37th minute.

The Super Eagles had had a difficult time travelling to Lima due to some hitches and ut was not surprising that these problems may have affected their performance.

The super Eagles were forced to sleep in a Madrid airport as the team missed a connecting flight from Madrid to Lima

Another factor in the hosts’ advantage was the high altitude at which the match was played.
There were some rough tackles between players of both sides.

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi kept the five foreign-based players on the bench and faced the hosts with Nigerian domestic league players.

Peru’s attempts to dominate the match with long passes did not yield dividend as the Nigerian side held their ground.

Attempts by Kalu Uche to cut through the Peruvian defence and score were thwarted by the South American team’s defenders.

The Peruvian team also known as the Blanquirrojas took the first shot at goal through Jefferson Farfan, eventually getting rewarded with Guerrero’s goal.

Nigeria are expected to play a 2014 World Cup qualifier against Namibia on June 3 in Calabar.
