Just like her visit to Lagos crumbled social and commercial activities few weeks ago, Warri was at a stand-still due to the First-Lady's Visit
Social and commercial activities were paralysed in Warri, Delta State on Monday following the visit of President Goodluck Jonathan’s wife.
NigerianEye learnt that Mrs. Patience Jonathan came to Warri to inaugurate a beauty shop, Tamare Health and Beauty Shop, along the Warri/Sapele Road.
The salon is said to be owned by the wife of former Police Minister, Mr Broderick Bozimo, Joyce.
Signs that a ‘Very Important Person’ was in the city were clear as early as 6.30am when Airport Junction, through the very busy Enerhen junction were blocked to artisans and bankers who were on their way to their shops and offices.
Also, the Effurun roundabout, through Sapele road, P.T.I junction to the Osubi airstrip end and Jakpa Junction, were completely blocked by overzealous security personnel and road safety officers.
The residents of the area were caught unawares as there was no prior announcement until the early Monday morning rush had begun.
An announcement from the office of the Secretary to the State Government in the morning through the state-owned Delta Broadcasting Service urged the security agencies to enforce the restriction order.
Motorists, who were caught in the chaotic traffic situation, parked their cars and took motorcycles, known in popular parlance as Okada to their offices.
There was visible outrage on the streets as residents condemned the suffering they had to go through due to the presence of the “first lady’’, in the oil-rich city.
Christopher Odamah, a student, who was stuck in the gridlock for hours described the incident as the “height of insensitivity’’.
“How can the whole roads in a city as commercial as Warri be blocked because someone is coming to open a beauty salon of all places,” he queried.
