Nigeria drops to 63rd on FIFA rankings, ranked below Gabon, Sierra Leone

Nigeria, who have competed at four World Cups and won two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments - have now dropped below countries that have not participated in the World cup before, Sierra Leone  and Gabon in the new FIFA rankings.
The country is now 63rd in the world and 12th in Africa.

Sierra Leone, whose population of six million is dwarfed by Nigeria's total in excess of 160m, have never travelled to a World Cup and have only ever competed at two Nations Cups - in 1994 and 1996.

In comparison to last month, there were only a few changes to the latest edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking. In many countries, the national championships are drawing to a close, which explains the small number of matches played at international level: only eight, all of which were friendlies, unfolded over the past month.

Spain continue to top the global ladder ahead of Germany and Uruguay, followed by the Netherlands and Portugal. The only change in the top 30 has been Argentina’s ousting of Denmark to occupy ninth place.

Ivory Coast remains the highest ranked African team, 15th in the world, and first in Africa, followed closely by Ghana, 22nd in the World, 2nd in Africa.

The composition of the top 50 remains unchanged: with 28 teams, UEFA remains the best represented confederation in the top 50, followed by CONMEBOL (9), CAF (7), CONCACAF (3) and the AFC (3). In 130th place, New Zealand are Oceania’s top-ranked team.

The June edition will undoubtedly bring more movement with it, as friendlies are played in Europe to warm up for UEFA EURO 2012 and another batch of 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ qualifiers influence the calculations.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Ranking will be published on 6 June 2012.

  1. God is not asleep. He is doing great work for us Nigerians and for our lovely country. Let his promises be anchored in your heart. Have faith in Him. God is not asleep over what is happening. Keep praying for this nation and her present government. Isaiah 3: 10 says, it is well. Only God can put an end to every urgly trend in this country, in Jesus name. Please, say amen!
Say always, JOB 22:29 “When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; He shall save the humble person. My hope, courage, and strength every day to live for.
    Thanks
