A 25-year-old sewing machine repairer on Friday in Lagos pleaded guilty to assaulting two policewomen who attempted to arrest him.
Tunde Adebayo admitted before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court that he pushed down and slapped Cpl. Pauline Gabriel and Cpl. Ekpe Michael, while they were on duty.
The prosecutor, Cpl Gbenga Salami, told the court that the policewoman wanted to arrest Adebayo for allegedly beating a pregnant woman.
He said that the incident occurred at Elebiju Street, Alapere, Lagos.
"In an attempt to arrest the accused by Pauline and Ekpe, he pushed them down and slapped them on their faces"
"He tore one of the officers’ uniforms and was about to run away when he was re-arrested by some other police officers who came to the scene,"Salami said.
Salami added that the pregnant woman was still receiving medical attention due to the beating.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 171 and 172 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
Magistrate Bola Folarin-Williams adjourned the case till May 25 for fact and sentencing.
