An Ilorin Magistrates' Court on Thursday ordered that a 19-year-old student, Alaska Omini, of Sobi Cantonment, Ilorin, be remanded in prison for allegedly defiling a three-year old girl.
Omini is facing a one-count charge of rape.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Mojisola Olamokun, told the court that the accused lured the girl into his room, when she was going to buy biscuit, and had carnal knowledge of her.
Olamokun said the case was transferred from Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police, Sobi, to the Criminal Investigation Department, for further investigation.
The court did not take the plea of the accused, and the prosecutor objected to the court granting him bail because the offence was not ordinarily bailable.
She urged the court to remand the accused in prison pending the completion of the investigation.
Magistrate Mariam Qudus-Salahu ordered the accused to be remanded at Federal Prison Yard, Okekura, Ilorin, and adjourned the case to May 24 for further mention. (NAN) Click to signup for FREE news updates, latest information and hottest gists everyday
