IG warns policemen against bribery

Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed AbubakarActing Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, on Wednesday warned police in Ondo State against bribery and all forms of corruption.

Abubakar said this during a courtesy call on Governor Olusegun Mimiko that any officer caught in the act would be dismissed.

He said the police had taken measures to rebuild the confidence of the people in the police.

The IG said he was in the state as part of his nationwide tour to sensitise policemen to the new measures being taken to rebuild the police and also to gear them up for the security challenges facing the nation.

Abubakar said, “I assure residents of our country that as security agents, we will not relent in tackling the nation’s security challenges.

“At the moment, serious recovery of arms and ammunition and arrest of some suspects in connection with security threat have been made.”

He commended the state government for the provision of equipment and other logistic support for the police.

Mimiko attributed the peace in the state to the collaboration between government and security agencies.

He said, “The nation is waiting to create a new organic linkage between the police and the public. An average Nigerian will want to see the police as friends of the people, a police force that will not only enforce the law but the force that will also obey the law.”

The IG later moved to Ibadan where he met with policemen in Oyo State.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Olabisi Clet-Ilobanafor, said the visit was part of Abubakar’s familiarisation tour of commands.

She added that the IGP was expected to visit Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, some stakeholders and traditional rulers in the state.

  1. Mr. Ag.IG of Police, these so-called Nigeria Police are corrupt regardless of the salary been paid to them. The corruption starts from their training school, they are not discipline, not cultured any where you see them. Is Army salary different from Police? Most importantly the Police needs to discipline themselves, whether you give them N500,000.00 per month or not, the corruption is in their blood. I appreciate the Army anywhere you see them neat, cultured, discipline and well behaved. I suggest the Police should be trained by the Army. To write ordinary statement in the Police Station you have to pay even to sit on their bench you must drop money.
