NUPENG threatens strike over sacked Lagos doctors

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) on Friday threatened to embark on solidarity strike if the state government fails to recall the sacked doctors.

The threat was issued at a press conference in Lagos by NUPENG President, Igwe Achese.

“We call on both parties to go back to the negotiating table with maturity to resolve the conflicts,” he said.

“However, NUPENG will join forces with other well-meaning Nigerians to call the Lagos state government to order to recall the sacked doctors. If the issue persists unresolved by Monday next week, NUPENG may be forced to embark on a solidarity strike action until the sacked doctors are recalled to save the lives of Nigerians in Lagos,” Mr Achese said.

He pointed out that the inexperienced doctors that were employed by the government are not adequate and properly equipped to treat the patients.

  1. How does it concern NUPENG?? It is likely this is a body of idle men seeking for any opportunity to embark on strike? If NUPENG dont have anything doing rather than strike, government should scrap it.

  2. And what does NUPENG know about qualified and unqualified doctors? How can licensed doctors be unqualified? In fact I would like them to go on strike let Nigerians understand better their senselessness.

  4. This bunch of unschooled tanker drivers (NUPENG)who have nothing good other than embarking on strikes should be scrapped. Let them take cue from its more matured sister organization (PENGASSEN), and learn how to embrace negotiations before going on strike, by the way, what is their business here? They (NUPENG) forget that their strike actions often cause more deaths than the striking doctors'? Yeye tanker drivers.

  5. Shows you how hopelessly irresponsible the leadership of NUPENG is. The only thing they know is strike, strike. A tanker driver is arrested, they embark on strike, they are asked to move to a better site to make way for free flow of traffic, they embark on strike. Now, they want to go on strike over Doctors case with Lagos State. What business of theirs is it if Lagos state and it's doctors disagree! They are now notorious strike mongers. Soon they strike themselves out of existence! What nonsense! One day the people will get tired of this spates of strikes and will attack the striking workers! Mark it, it will soon happen.

  6. Goes to show how idle NUPENG is....... Is it possible for an employee to hold its employers to ransome and not face the consequence especially when human life is concerned when the so called Doctors in question signed a oath of office that they would not under any circumstance abandon their job.
