Revolution inevitable in Nigeria - Buhari

Former Head of State and the presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change in the April 2011 elections, Major-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), in Kaduna on Saturday warned that there would be revolution in Nigeria if the ruling Peoples Democratic Party failed to address the social injustice ravaging the country

He says the PDP will be consumed by a political revolution unless it adopts ‘real democracy.’

"If there is no social justice, there will be revolution in one way or the other. The PDP does not believe in real democracy and I hope they are strong enough to go through the consequencies of their injustice,"Buhari said yesterday in Kaduna at the launch of a poverty alleviation programme of the member of the House of Representatives representing Kaduna North on the platform of the CPC, Alhaji Usman Bawa.

According to Gen. Buhari, the PDP would be thrown into political turmoil by 2015 which would then trigger a revolution that would put an end to what he called the injustice and stealing entrenched by the party.

The PDP,he stressed, was not interested in social justice and transparency and asked Nigerians and his supporters in particular to protect their votes during the elections and avoid being manipulated by opponents.
He said: "The question of the PDP and its leadership, they don’t accept social justice. If there is no social justice, in a question of time there will be revolution in one form or the other. After the last general election, we went as far as to the Supreme Court.

"But after that, what happened in Kogi State, Adamawa and Sokoto states and the bye-elections made us believe that PDP leadership is not prepared for real democracy and social justice. And I hope they will be strong enough to go through the consequences of their injustice.
"I want to speak of what happened in Igabi local government area of Kaduna State. Members of CPC in Kaduna State, the elected members of PDP from the Senate, House of Representatives and the state Assembly, went to educate people in Igabi and made sure that there was free and fair election and the CPC won.

"What I am advocating is for the local government election and 2015 general elections to be free and fair. Every local government and constituency must behave like Igabi. If you don’t want to win, but to remain as slaves in your own country, then you can go home and sleep. Otherwise, if you must fight for your right, you must wake and ensure that justice is done.

"You must make sure that your votes count. To prove to you that there is not going to be justice under PDP and its leaders, look at what happened in the hearing on fuel subsidy in the National Assembly; pension funds.
"People are dying in twos while others are syndicates of thieves, with people stealing and keeping money in their houses up to the tune of two billion naira. By 2015, whoever steals public funds has automatically sentenced himself to death.

"We know that we were rigged out in last election. Nothing can happen unless there is justice. What I said before, I still stand by it. Akaa’sa, a tsare, a raka, a hana, a taba, (display the election materials, protect, escort, prevent rigging).
"From now, if you want justice politically, you must all emulate Igabi.

Otherwise, the situation we are in will continue to deteriorate. May God give you the patience to endure the hardship that you have been subjected to, the money to educate your children, build roads, hospitals and provide the required security is been stolen abroad. Nigerians must rise against this attitude; it is your right."

He lamented the looting of pension funds, saying such financial fraud could not take place under a government that believes in justice and transparency.
On its part, Peoples Democratic Party yesterday condemned a former presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, for predicting a likely revolution in 2015.
The party described Buhari as a serial election loser who does not believe in democratic tenets.

The PDP made its position known in a statement in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Barrister Olisah Metu.
The party said: "The Peoples Democratic Party has described the former military Head of State and the Presidential flag bearer of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) General Mohammadu Buhari as a despot who despite pretences has never hidden his disdain for elected government.
"Buhari' statement where he said a revolution was imminent against the PDP led federal government, is a frustration of a serial election loser.

"Buhari's statement did not come to us as surprise. It is a sure sign of frustrations over his inability and that of his Party to win elections. Besides, it is a signature tune of all despots who despite pretences to new ideology often betray the old habit that hardly dies."
"However, what revolution is Buhari looking for? If after truncating democratic process in 1984, General Buhari today enjoys the fundamental tenets of democracy as in freedom of speech which he denied Nigerians, what revolution is greater?"

"The PDP further said it was unfortunate that the former head of state have not accepted the fact that his ideology has clearly been rejected by the people at the polls and affirmed by the courts.
"What is revolutionary, the statement continued, is the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan; his bold steps in returning our great country to the visions of our founding fathers. What is revolutionary is the passage of the Electoral Act which facilitated general elections adjudged by local and international observers as most credible in our recent history."
"Would Buhari have signed into law, the Freedom of Information Act if he were President? So hat revolution is he referring to?
"What is revolutionary if he must know further is the transparency of
on-going probes by the National Assembly, which is a firm step in the fight against corruption".

"We know that Gen. Buhari is artful in truncating elected governments. His three -time failure on the platform of different political Parties to win election is driving him to the old habit. Unfortunately for him, Nigerians are not interested in his type of revolution

  1. Barrister Olisah Metu, how are you sure Nigerians are not interested in a 'revolution' to free this country of sycophants like you and the rot called "PDP" with its thieving politicians?

    1. Buhari is too old 2 rule this country considering his behavious & centimental attitudes. His era has passed with his eastwhile deputy who was d defactor president @ d time. Just have a look of states controlled by CPC, u cannot see any meaningful development compared 2 PDP controlled states, infact in some states like Gombe which is controlled by PDP, d level of development is outstanding but jus look @ Nasarawa State controlled by CPC, nothing 2 show in terms of Development particularly in Mararaba. Shame on u Buhari if u cannot work on ur CPC governors 2 deliver d dividents of democracy, just forget 2015.We need action in Nigeria not talkatives

  3. Buhari, an instigator to further truncate Nigerin democracy is not acceptable by Nigerians. He should and learn more about diplomacy on how natiional issues should be addressed. You are not the messiah of our time. The true revolution were merged on natural ground.

  4. When it will happen Metu will no longer be there. I am not surprised Metu can go on air and be vomiting rubbish as usual. knowing fully well that PDP is suffering millions of Nigerians. Awolowo argued that he was out to fight for the masses while his aim was unarchived but he reminded government that masses shall fight for themselves one day. No doubt Buhari military government of two or three years was far more better than PDP government of 18-year. where is PDP taking us to? Buhari has spoken. May our lord Jesus Christ see us through.

  5. PDP is not helping matters today but Buhari should thread carefully on what he speaks on. He will b among the first to flee should there b a revolution.Let us all analyse revolution in our minds and visualize likely outcome. There would be not less than 8 countries from present Nigeria. People should stop thinking- he is my brother or from my ethnic group or from my religion etc but should think what can he deliver? I don't see Nigeria improving with the present level of corruption everywhere. How would Nigeria become a better country?

  6. When will the people of this country now accept that Buhari speaks for the suffering millions in this country? PDP should stop playing the Ostrich game, the lessons of January 2012 Occupy Nigeria seems lost or not yet driven to the PDP home. Revolution, in whatever form is nigh in this country, unless we are saved from the yoke of a Party Deceiving People. Perhaps, GO Adeboye should rise up first and call his annointed ward, who has been nothing but the harbinger of bad luck, and sundry malfeasance, to order.

  7. See who is talking about injustice in PDD! General, what do you call what happened to your governorship candidates in Kano, Katsina and Kaduna.? You couldn't manage a political party which you founded and registered, you prevaricated so much on who were the right candidates, that you lost those states and more. You lost your touted integrity in your handling of the affairs of your own party.
Presently, what is happening in the North requires leadership. What has been your position? Step out, show leadership by quelling the present situation that is destroying the North and I will go down to the south and establish political offices and campaign vigorously for you.

  8. I think Nigerians should stop been sentimental about issues. Let put barrier between issues and personality. The issues at stake is topical to all Nigerians and as such Buhari should not be viewed as the wrong person to address the issue especially when it is attacking this cult group called PDP. What is happening under the government of PDP is not corruption but mental case. Because you just wonder if this people are human beings or animals in human form with the unimaginable amount of money they steal and keep in their houses. And you expect people to clap their hands for them? God will punish them. Ameen

  10. If PDP fails Nigerians(No doubt),i don't think it's this Jihadist Buhari that will save the country.Buhari's words do not show someone that God will use to deliver this country. He should go & learn how to talk to convince pple rather than 'War' 'Revolution' or 'Protest' he is always clamouring for.If revolution starts now,he will be wipes off with it including PDP & other parties members that are stealing in government.

  11. The issue is corrruption, lack of transparency, slow development, and lack of vision. If we can can just address these issues, we will be once again the greatest country in Africa. PDP, CPC, and other political parties should address the above issues and we are home free. However; if we continue in this careless attitude, the result will be revolution like Buhari and CIA predicted. God bless Nigeria.

  12. Now that Buhari made this prediction, the next Boko Haram attack will be attributed to him and the headline will read, "General Buhari called for the total destruction of the Country". Then we bury our heads in the sand like the ostriches do.

  15. Its a shame that General Buhari will be talking of war, revolution, strikes and all manner of inflamatory talks that encourages bloodbathe. He should realise that alot of innocent poor people will die in such revolution he is advocating for. His words has led to the upsurge of Boko Haram and the killing of innocent corps members after the general election that he lost to Goodluck Jonathan. I Buhari wants revolution, he should start it with his household and barricade roads and dare the Nigerian armed forces fire for fire, being in the fore front with guns and bombs, then we can be sure that he means business and not inciting people to go and die for him.

  17. Buhari shut up your mouth, someone like you that suppose to be in exile you are still making noise all over, you all join hands together both the past and the present leaders to spoil our good country for us and from my critical observations it was after Buhari lost that election that the country is no more having its peace and he is still making such similar statement again because according to that the northerners are born to rule and as a result of that they are going to disturberlise this present government, i am someone who is not interested in politics even i did not vote for Goodluck but, with the present situation of the country now and what the northerners are doing now, i have decided that in the next election i will come out whole heatedly to vote for Goodluck or someone else but, not Hausa, there is no apology for this statement, these people are heartless they want to become the Antichrist of Nigeria, No way, take it or you live it.

  18. Buhari’s Call for Revolution
Look who's talking! Buhari calls for a revolution if PDP wins. What if his party wins?! At his age and standing, one would expect some form sobriety from him. When he led a coup d'etat, he was a young hothead military man who had no regards for the ability of the 'bloody civilians' to handle democracy. Some other hotter heads sacked him, and led us through the never-ending dance of lies and faithless leadership of Babangida. He, in turn got pushed out by his close confidante, Abacha, and the macabre dance continued. Having tasted top leadership for a few months, Buhari imagines himself an elder statesman, and now pontificates on what Nigerians should or shouldn't do come a possible PDP victory in 2015. On what basis does Buhari think he is a qualified leader? In what other areas has he tested his ability to lead? I, for one, do not care for where he comes from. No, that is not the matter here. What can he do? He said he went all the way to the Supreme Court in contesting the last election. Bully for him! That's the way it ought to be. Now, he envisages losing the 2015 elections, and his panacea is 'revolution'? Does he have in mind something like the one in Tunisia? Egypt? Libya? Bahrain? Yemen? Saudi Arabia? Oman? Kuwait? Or, what? One central denominator among these countries enumerated above is - Islam. I shudder to think that this is what Buhari is talking about. I shudder to think that this 'General' is not already hands deep in planning this campaign. I shudder to think that his crusade for 'social justice' is not a poor cover for an innate longing to turn our beloved country into a fundamentalist anarchy.
I plead that nobody reduces my stand as a sectional, sectarian, or religious one. I’m just concerned for my often-raped beloved country. The party in power now is not pristine, however, the revelations coming out of several areas of financial brigandage serves my conscience well that some of the excesses are being curtailed and dealt with. People, who in the past would be untouchable, are frequently thrown into jail. That makes me happy. Let’s strengthen the mechanism for catching these thieves. Let’s look out for, and close all loopholes from which politicians steal our mandates. Let us examine more closely those we send to represent us. Let us make proper use of the democratic instruments in the constitution to tackle our social malaise. Let’s send some of our old ‘champions’ into retirement and forever close their lying mouths from telling us more stories. From my experience, practically all parties attempt to rig elections. Most time, the winners are the best riggers. Let’s, therefore, be alert to every new method invented to truncate our electoral powers and crush them without mercy. On this note, I will advise General Muhammadu Buhari to sheathe his revolutionary sword. The days when some went out to the streets to dance for bloody takeover are gone. We are tired of being classified as a banana state where every problem is solved by the barrels of the gun. We don’t to be a Mali or Guinea Bissau.

  19. I see Buhari's remarks as incendiary. His normally cool exterior belied what he called for. Revolutions look good at the beginning while it is still based on words. When the bullets start flying, those who are ideological aggressive discover that it is a different ball game. The leaders of revolution rarely control it. Soon after all revolutions, as history attests, when you count the cost, you see little or no dividends. Nigeria has NOT reached that state. People who sought power, and fail to get it should accept defeat with a measure of grace. And that's the advice I would give to General Muhammadu Buhari. No EX-MILITARY MAN who sullied his hands with STOLEN POWER has a right to aspire for more. NONE of them will EVER GET MY VOTE!
