Commercial cyclists popularly known as Okada riders involved in accidents will now undergo psychiatric tests in Bayelsa State.
Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) Jack Tamunotonye disclosed this when he visited the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Yenogoa. He said: "Motor-cycle operators involved in road accidents would be examined at the psychiatry to ascertain their mental state."
Tamunotonye pointed out that the development became necessary following frequent occurrence of accidents involving motor-cycle operators in the state.
He also said the FRSC was considering a proposal for outright ban of motorcycles. The FRSC commander who just resumed said the Command will enlist journalists as Special Marshals and train them on traffic rules and regulations.
He also warned against extortion of money from members of the public by some men of the command, saying such offenders would be dismissed from service.
