Okada riders in Lagos to go on strike tommorow

For many Lagosians who would be thinking of using the commercial motrocycles popularly known as "Okada" on monday morning (April 2nd 2012) some challenges may be experienced tomorrow morning, as the members of the National Commercial Motorcycles and Tricycle Owners and Riders Association, Motorcycle Transport Union of Nigeria,  All Nigerians Auto-bike Commercial Owners and Workers Association and Okada Riders Welfare Association have called on their members to stay off the street from 7a.m to 10a.m tomorrow (Monday), to enable them attend a court session.

The Chairman of the four associations, Mr. Daramola Williams, said the action was necessary to demonstrate support and solidarity in court following the suit filed on their behalf against the Lagos State Government by their lawyer, Mr. Bamidele Aturu, over the banning of Okada from operating within the Ikeja Business District.

It can be recalled that Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has placed a total ban on commercial motorcycle (okada) operation in Ikeja area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

  1. We are aware that its not all of them are criminals but the ban has as well reduced the influx of some immigrants into the state especially those who could be used as Boko Haram allies here. On the other hand I think some security measures shld be put in place to identify real okada riders by having a unit uniform with which to identify which section any okada man belongs to with number boldly written on it as an identity. The ban has toughen movement somehow for those dat use it. God blx nigeria
