The President of Malawi, President Bingu wa Mutharika has died after a heart attack, medical and government sources said on Friday, although few of his countrymen mourned a leader widely seen as an autocrat responsible for a stunning economic collapse.
The 78-year-old was rushed to hospital in Lilongwe on Thursday after collapsing but was dead on arrival, the sources said. State media said he had been flown to South Africa for treatment although his immediate whereabouts remained unclear.
Medical sources said the former World Bank economist had been flown out because a power and energy crisis in the nation of 13 million was so severe the Lilongwe state hospital would have been unable to carry out a proper autopsy or even keep his body refrigerated.
According to the Reuters News agency, many Malawians blamed Mutharika personally for the economic woes, which stemmed ultimately from a diplomatic spat with former colonial power Britain a year ago.
"We know he is dead and unfortunately he died at a local, poor hospital which he never cared about - no drugs, no power," said Chimwemwe Phiri, a Lilongwe businessman waiting in a snaking line of cars for fuel at a petrol station.
There was no official announcement. State media said a statement would be made at midday (1000 GMT).
As rumors of the death of the self-styled 'Economist in Chief' swept the capital on Thursday night, there were even pockets of drunken jubilation among locals who saw him turning back the clock on 18 years of democracy in the 'Warm Heart of Africa'.
"I am yet to see anyone shedding a tear for Bingu," said Martin Mlenga, another businessman. "We all wished him dead, sorry to say that."
The constitution says Vice-President Joyce Banda will take over as head of state. Analysts said there would be a smooth transition even though Banda was booted out of Mutharika's ruling DPP party in 2010 after an argument about succession.
Mutharika appeared to have been grooming his Foreign Minister brother Peter as his successor, although there was little question of the army and police not respecting the law, said former Attorney General Ralph Kasambara.
"The army has been very professional," Kasambara, now a human rights activist, told Reuters. "He was very unpopular. People were praying for his death. We can't get any worse than we are."
The next election is due in 2014.
T.B Joshua's Prophecy?
Prophet TB Joshua said on 1st April that an African president will die
soon and yesterday, Mutharika died from cardiac arrest
In his words:
On 5th February 2012, TB Joshua simply
stated that:
“We should pray for one African head of state, president,
against sickness that will likely take his life. It is a long time sickness –
being kept in the body for a long time. God showed me the country and the place
but I’m not here to say anything like that. I am still praying to God to deliver
the president concerned.”
Then on 1st April, TB Joshua reiterated the
prophecy saying:
“Last time I said we should pray for a leader of a country
and you people gave different meanings to what I said and I want to say, God
will forgive you all. I never mentioned name or time. You can never stop me from
saying what God has put in my heart. What I’m saying is very close now. Whether
you like it or not, pray for your leaders. The person concerned, God showed me
but I’m praying to see whether this can be changed. Pray for your leaders. A
head of a nation, I’m seeing a sudden death as a result of sickness. Pray, this
is Africa, not even West Africa. Lift up your voice and pray for a leader, that
the Lord should redeem our leaders in this continent of Africa. In Jesus
Christ’s name we pray. I will continue to bring this issue, when it is too
close, the name, the country. Pray for your country, your continent, the whole
world. Prayer.”

this is too precise, for the first time, am having a second look at d man TB
ReplyDeleteThe Bible says there will be false prophets in the last days. That TB Joshua prophesied doesn't make him a true believer. Watch out or you'll fall into the trap of the devil.
ReplyDeleteHow do know that TB Joshua is not a true believer? Only devil knows his agents, am sure TB Joshua is one of your agent if he is not a true believer.
DeleteWhy should nogerian pray for there leaders when all they do is care about themselves not the masses,i was even thinking TB vision was for nigeria, masses die everyday due to bad roads, epileptic power supply, worst health attention etc, our law makers only care about sharing billions, God will save who is deverved to saved.
ReplyDeleteBelieve in the prophet of God you shall proper, God has sent his prophet in the world if we urge with all this men of God and prophet then whom will we believe????? Please let not George any man of God to Avoid adding more course unto ourselves,,,if u don't believe keep it to yourself, don't criticize
ReplyDeleteSeeing things and prophesying, people, does not make one real o. If not all the white garment and juju seers will be termed real. There are various powers that help one see/heal or do stuff, rmb?
ReplyDeleteAnd theres nothing so wonderfully 'precise' about this prophesy even. Ok, 'A woman in his congregation with a long term health condition is going to die SOON. please pray and pray so this can be reversed'. People die daily within a congregation, rmb? So lets take it easy with our belief of seers.
Don't get me wrong, not like 'seeing' is bad, but lets just take it easy, cos i know as humans we like to hear the future, 1way or the other. Many of them MOG see. Even the ones that see and tell us over the TV. Dem know themselves :-)
IBRAHIM
ReplyDeleteTB Joshua has been on the media for a long time now and his miracles have drawn lots of attention world wide. He has said lots of things with precision and criticism has been coming in from all corners. No prophesy was more precise to me like that of Drogba missing penalty in the 27 minute of the 2nd half of the just concluded African Cup of Nations.
Sure, one should be careful with what one believes in. But while pple are being cautioned about his miracles, no one says anything about the humanitarian aspect of his ministry. He gives money n food to pple and no one is being cautioned about it. I am sending this from Maiduguri Borno state and i have seen wat he has done here and all over the world, yet he receives criticism more than any other MOG. Pastor Chris, Oyedepo N Adeboye are pastors of TBJ's magnitude, they perform miracles also but no body says anything about them. They get money from pple to build universities that the same pple cannot send thier children to, yet they are praised, or at least they are not criticized for doing that but Temitope Joshua who is doing to pple what Nigerian gov't cannot do unless u work is the one being criticized. My advice here is this; we should be of what we believe in, we should also be watchful of what we don't believe in otherwise one day we will reject Jesus Christ because of our carefulness.
What about Paul? Remember him? The famous soothsayer @ South Africa 2010- the Octopus did say and it came to pass- that Spain would defeat Holland. This is similar to someone saying Drogba would miss penalty. So if Joshua is a prophet, help me look for a similar title for late Paul- the Octopus.
ReplyDeleteI don't really see why people are against prophet t.b.Joshua, what has he really done that is not in the bible? He preaches Jesus christ and not the devil, why do we believe that only people with devil's power can do such outstanding miracles and prophesies, does it mean that the devil is more powerful than the almighty God. Thank God for emmanual tv because I used to believe all sort of lies about him, people even said that he claims to be the messaiah. We should not rush to condemn or even waste our time trying to analyze if t.b.Joshua, I think christ should be the focus of every true believer. More souls would be saved if we spend half as much time talking about Jesus than criticizing others.
ReplyDeleteThe problem I have with those criticizing either T.B. Josua or Pastor Chris oyakhilome is that they should tell us what they have done perfectly and why we should see them as better than these men. T.B. Joshua is not tribalistic while most churches that criticise him are very tribalistic. Tribalism is their own problem and they are too self centered, only caring about what comes to them: Private jets, universities for the rich, nothing for the poor around them, not necessarily the poor in their churches. They should tell me why we should even believe them for the miracles that happen in thir churches and why we should not believe that of t.b. josua and Pastor Chris
ReplyDeleteThe Bible says we should not believe every inspired expression but to test whether they originate from God.It is a warning. Would God be concern about football matches or the death of a leader of a nation? Are they related to the kingdom of which is the primary teaching of Christ? Even when after 'seeing' the deaths of these leaders why cant his prayers stop them? do you ever ask? Even in the book of Acts there was a young girl with a spirit of predictions and can 'see' things, later that spirit was cast out.Lets not be carried away by all these predictions. Granted, people like to here such things. But my advice is that even 419ers play people by using things that appear very genuine in deceiving people Satan is far more intelligent (being a spirit and a far older person), to deceive humans is just too simple to him, we are only lucky to have God. I am not critisizing but making a candid observation with the authority of the holy scriptures the Bible
ReplyDeleteWow - just saw the video of the prophecy on YouTube now - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctk9ep1Pokc.
ReplyDeleteIt's accuracy can't be denied, especially the fact that Joshua said it again last Sunday and said it was 'very, very close'.
Don't speak evil against the men of God. It is a warning. Paradventure God will change ur situation. I don't worship in Synagogue but I have changed and have stopped saying evil about men of God. I have prayed for mercy if by error I've sinned against God himself. May God bless his Church and all men of God.
ReplyDeleteThe people that spend so much time criticizing others should pause and ask themselves a good question; what have they done better than those they are criticizing. What can never dream of doing, they blame another for accomplishing it.
ReplyDeletewell God knows everything, the Bible says you will know them by their fruits and prophet T.B Joshua represents God if not all man of God are devils and we are lost. Those who are against him show us the true man of God and how they are different if u cant just shup up and hold ur peace if at all you have any.
