JTF defuse bomb-rigged vehicle in Kano


The Joint Military Taskforce (JTF) , Monday afternoon, in Kano defused a high caliber Improvised Explosive Device, IED, primed in an abandoned vehicle along the strategic eastern by-pass close to a military check point in Kano.


Military spokesman, Lt Ikediche Iweha told Vanguard in a telephone chat that the exercise was successful; stressing that “there was no casualties while the process lasted”.



Ikediche Iweha stated that the affected area was cordoned off jus as he enjoined members of the public to be vigilant and report suspected objects and suspicious movement to relevant authority.


Security operatives in Kano had earlier in the day uncovered a plot by the extremist Boko Haram sect to detonate a deadly explosion in Kano today.


The Joint Task Force had just issued a statement saying it had found a car, laden with explosives, on Zaria Road area of the city.


The statement, which are being read repeatedly on radio stations in the city, has sent panic round Kano with some residents scampering home for safety.


Deadly explosions had rocked Kaduna and Jos Sunday leaving scores of people dead and many others injured.


Spokesperson of the Kano Police Command could not immediately be reached for comment.
