Gunmen numbering about seven, attacked a police station in Amichi, Nnewi South Council area yesterday, releasing suspects and carting away 14 AK47 Riffles and rounds of ammunitions from the armoury.
According to an eyewitness account, the dare-devil robbers who struck at about 2.30am on Wednesday morning, opened fire on the police station, wounding one of the policemen on duty while others ran away.
The gunmen numbering about seven set free all the detainees in the cells and allegedly carted away all the arms in the armoury.
The invaders, according to witnesses, shot as they approached the police station. The walls of the police station and about 10 vehicles parked in the station were riddled with bullet holes.
A source said the hoodlums stormed the police station about two o’clock in the morning when many residents were fast asleep.
He said the heavily armed gunmen came in a Sport Utility Vehicle and shot continuously for about 40 minutes before carting away the police arms, including more than 14 AK47 rifles.
The police authorities could not be reached for their reaction to the incident. The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bala Nasarawa, was said to be away in Abuja and his deputy, Mr. Austine Evbakhavbokun, declined to comment on the matter.

Well, it has start spreading. when the Boko haram people start bombing police station and setting prisoners free, the Gov't decides to negotiate with them instead of tackling the menace head on. Now other people in the other regios has start their own so that Jonathan can start to negotiate and pay millions for criminality. It means criminality pays in Nigeria. That is what PDP Gov't is trying to tell us. God saves Nigeria.
